Hello, I'm wondering if anyone can help. I would like to find a used boat suitable for the lakes you guys talk about here. I'm trying to get my son involved in fishing, I normally fish for trout on creeks. I think I'm losing his attention, as he hates the pickers, holes etc, in the woods. He's only six. Anyway Im hoping he might like fishing for bass off a small boat. I'm thinking Jon boat type boat. I would like to find a used boat with maybe an electric motor but the potential for a small gas eventually as we live close to the Octorara res.( electric only) But maybe Marsh creek, Muddy run, etc. wouldn't be bad either. My questions are would a 16' Jon boat be okay and do you think I could find a decent one for maybe $2000.00 or so. nothing fancy i guess. And is there anywhere around here, Chester county vicinity I can start to look. I've looked in trade talk, etc. Nothing. Thank you

One more thing. Is it fair to think I can find a decent boat for that much?

I think you can. Also, don't take your son bass fishing. Stick with bluegill. I'm not telling you anything you don't already know, but with the attention span of a 6 year old, bluegill provide much more action that bass do. An hour into catching nothing and he'll want to go home but if you keep him catching, he'll be good for a few hours.

Try searching our classifieds here, and craigslist (philadelphia.craigslist.org) I'm sure you will find one soon enough, maybe even listen to the swap shop on 1420 AM WCOJ, I found a great deal on a canoe on there last year! I'll keep an eye out though.

If you can make it out there, Cabelas has jon boats for sale. I haven't been there since last year, but when I was there, the prices were in the $500-600 range for a decent sized boat without the trailer. Add about $200 for a trailer and maybe $300 for a motor, you have an alright fishing boat for well under $1500. You might want to call them to verify pricing/availability before you head out.
