Dave...
That # for the local office is the # for Speedwell's office. I surely hope that there is an office closer to Struble than that! Is there an office at Hibernia anywhere?

I suppose the tree farm option is good, I don't want to point fingers with no evidence, BUT I have seen groups of guys walking down through the fields down near the tunnel (across from tree farm 'headquarters'. I've got numbers and info and besides that I'm always on the lookout.

As a member of Brandywine Bassmasters who adopted this lake, I am really upset as to what is going on with the illegal fishing. I am going to report this to the club at the next meeting and we will get in touch with the proper people to see that something is done to stop this. We did not do all this work in constructing the dock and building and placing porcupine cribs to have some idiots ruin it for the law abiding. If you see them doing this the quickest way to report them is to call 911 and have the local police or state police respond. I usually check this area once a week fishing or not but will have to do it more often.

hello fellow concerned fisherman. as I stated before the fish comm. officer I met at Struble said he was "well aware" of the problem. the officers at Chambers also knew but seemed less than enthusiastic about the whole process, "they don't appear in court". Chambers is a special panfish enhancement lake. here is the link for size limits. I have no doubt that struble would benefit from this also. sites.state.pa.us/Fish/fishpub/summary/panfish.html

Got a follow up email from the state rep, here it is: Hi Mr. , I contacted the Fish and Boat Commission in Harrisburg and spoke with one of the officers there, who happens to live in southern Berks County, not all that far from Struble Lake. He says that, because he’s close by, he sometimes patrols Struble Lake himself, in addition to the assigned officer. He said he patrolled it recently and checked fifteen or so fishermen, and all of the fish they had were legal size. He explained that there are some types of fish which are not covered by any size limit, but as a fisherman yourself, you already probably knew that. Nonetheless, he said that he would bring the matter to the assigned officer’s attention, and ask him to try to make himself a little more visible during his rounds, especially at Stuble Lake. He pointed out that there is just the one officer to cover the townships in Chester County along Route 322, all the way down to Kennett Square, Oxford and the Maryland state line, so that cuts down on how frequently he could patrol any particular site. He also indicated that say 20 years ago, there were more volunteer deputy officers willing to patrol, but that their numbers have fallen dramatically. I hope that by calling this to their attention the quality of fishing at Struble Lake will return to where it was a few years ago. Very truly, Tim Hennessey State Representative 26th Legislative District Sounds like he thinks I dont know the difference between bass & blue gills . I may have to look into that volunteer thing, maybee we all should and bust all theese poachers & show them that there is a problem ! Dave

barb-less hooks are a good way to help save fish. Also limiting fight time helps.

Thanks Big Dave. I gave that phone number to call about poachers that was posted to all our club members at the meeting Sunday. They were very irate as to what is going on. We still have 20 more cribs to install before the season ends. If this was 60 years ago someone would have been shot for doing this, part of the Old West justice. I will keep checking the site for your information. Thanks again.

I am new to this site and happen to live relatively close to Struble Lake.
I too have witnessed the poachers filling buckets with unlimited numbers of fish. These "fishers" have no license and seem to appear every year when the crappie come into the shallows to spawn. Not too many years ago, I was able to catch (and release) dozens of crappie from the bank. Lately, the fishing just isn't the same. I truly believe that the poachers have hurt the fishing.
