this is obviously a problem at struble. way too many carp. they were still spawning all over the lake. there are so many they are stunted. does the fish commission care to maybe net a few tons of them out and give this lake back to the bass? I think the fish cribs put in are a great idea and I thank brandywine bassmaster for their work here and for the chambers lake dock. I believe the answer is reducing the carp population. wishful thinking

I agree that carp have ruined the lake. It also affect waterfowl hunting because there is no plants left. I will bowfish it this spring and see how many I can kill. I know a few a other bowfisherman that will help but we can only do so much.

I will bring this carp problem up at the next Brandywine Bassmasters meeting and see what we can do about it. The fish commision should be able to net or schock these fish to the surface for removal. Question is what to do about them after removal.

that would be productive. I did a "google search" for "fish netting carp for charity" and got a charity carp tourney in England. certainly there is a use for those fish to make harvesting a worthwhile thing. I wondered what those guys do with the carp when bow hunting them. I am sure its a great sport but I am thinking that you don't bring them home. rotting fish smell is bad. even the raccoons can't keep up with all those carp.

I'm a bowfisher and a lot of my friends are. I mostly throw them in the woods behind my house and the raccoons and fox eat them. They are not safe to eat due to pcb's and mercury because they are bottom feeders. We would never leave them at the lake. Its illegal to do that. One guy I know takes them to a bird sanctuary and they feed them to wounded eagles. It would be nice to clean that lake up. Its a major resting stop for waterfowl in chester county and there is nothing for them to eat. That bothers me.

I never fished struble, but I know what it's like when there is to many carp. I'm assuming they are mostly small(stunted). How big is struble? It'd be nice to a percentage of them out, and lower the biomass, then you could catch some big carp!

Most of them are small, but there also are some pretty good sized ones in there for the consideration. Most I've caught usually range around 15"-25" But have hooked some better ones. It seems like theres a small window in the spring right before spawn that they really turn on, and jump like crazy, after that its slim picking unless you hit just the right spot.
It might not be a bad Idea to go out and get more than a couple to take out, as well as small catfish, those 2 species definately dominate the lake.
I dont know an exact acreage on the lake but Id compare it more to like....inbetween scotts run and hopewell lake. Its like an overgrown pond really, majority is shallow with deepest I've read on my depthfinder being around 25'

better get your eyes checked. Hopewell is half the size of struble. Hopewell is 68 acres and struble is 140 acres.

I'll go go but I use a bow. shotgun won't work. Unless you shoot them while they are jumping.
