I'm thinking about buying a small boat for my son and I to go out on Struble and maybe French Creek. Want something to troll around the lakes, do a little bass and pan fishing. Something that is easy to lug around. Something cheap. Any suggestions? Wife wanted to get a paddle boat, anyone ever use one for fishing? thanks.

eaglesman, I wouldn't suggest a paddle boat for fishing. I think your best bet will be a 12 or 14 foot aluminum john boat or semi V. You can either row or put an electric motor on it. If you need anymore info just ask.

Eaglesman, I have an Old Town 158 canoe. I put a motor mount on it for a trolling motor and added the plastic bass boat seats...the cheap ones from Wmart...but they are comfortable to fish from. I made them so they are removable to car top the canoe and lock into place for use. Then for added stability, I got a set of stabilizers...great for fishing and restless kids. I use it in Lakes and on the Delaware. The back seat can also be reversed and placed in the front to use solo. If you want to take a look at the set up, e-mail me. If the weather is decent, you could even try it out on Deep Creek Lake around the corner from me if you can travel that far. If you like it, I'll be selling it without the stabilizers for $350. If you don't, at least you can scratch one idea off your list or get an idea of the size of boat you want after you sit in it. Feel free to let me know if you want to see the set up....Dave

Sorry, I have been job hunting for a while and finally found one...then working my butt off, so haven't been checking the boards, Midnightbasser has the pic of almost the same stabilizers that I got. Check out canoegear.com and they sell the same ones at Cabelas, marked up a bit. Better yet maybe someone here can sell a set to you. They are great.
