Hello all, Me and my father were planning on taking a trip to Blue Marsh on memorial day. We have two kayaks and a fish finder. I have never been to Blue so I was wondering if anyone has any tips on locations, species or anything else that we may need to know in order to be successful. The last few times we've been out to different lakes the old man has gotten skunked, so I'm just looking to put him on some fish. Thanks

Wear your life jackets that place will be a circus. I'd stick to the "No Wake" zones in a yak(or smaller boat). That said it is a very tough lake... probably your best shot at "catching" is to find a downed tree or two and target crappies(size + keep limits). Plus you never know what else will be lurking... I've caught musky, hybrid stripers, walleye, bass and cats all on crappie jigs.
Beside my report from Tuesday I was over Friday morning as well(targeting hybrids but generally get some bass action). I went to a different shoreline that generally has Alewife activity before the sun comes up... nothing happening.

I appreciate the tips. From what I understand the upper portion and most of the lake fingers/coves are no wake, with the only wake section down by the dam. Is this correct? Do you think that we would have better success in some of the lower coves or the upper portion of the lake? I would think by now the crappies would be moving into post spawn patterns, any idea if this is the case? Thank you

Tomorrow I wouldn't go near the wake areas. You can launch your kayaks into the no wake and stay there all day. Plenty of diverse water and structure there.

The darker blue are the "No Wake" zones... www.nap.usace.army.mil/Portals/39/docs/Civil/Blue_Marsh/trail%20map.pdf ... technically you are not supposed to run more than "idle" speed within 100 feet of the shoreline or in the coves in the Unlimited zone... however Idiots will be Idiots. Plus you still have to venture out in the main lake to try another cove or get back the launches. As for the crappies we used to be able to find them on trees year round(I had to sell my boat a while back so not 100% that still holds true). The few times I get invited out anymore the targeted fish are usually bass... which even though we both have years on the lake can still be hit or miss. If I can figure it out(new computer) I'll send you a map with areas you can launch in the No Wake - Only 2 "official" launches but several "pull offs" some require more effort than others. PS.... look at the habitat map on the PFBC website it has GPS locations of the different structures sunk over the years....sadly much of it has broken up over the years.

Sorry you need to join for me to message you... basically the areas are on 183 going N. towards Bernville. You will cross a bridge at Mt. Pleasant that is your first choice - other pull offs as you head north including the Church Rd day use area and the PFBC boat launch. Some require more effort.
