I have a few brook trout streams that are located in State Game Lands that I like to fish. Recently a buddy of mine who hunts advised me from doing it in the fall; not because of safety reasons but because I could disturb a hunter in his stand.
Not being a hunter I wanted to get some other opinions on this. I really don't want to disturb anybody else, but I really do want to fish these streams in the fall.
if I go in the afternoon am I less likely to disturb anybody?
Just looking for some opinions please.

Going on Sundays is your best bet(at this time) to avoid hunters but be aware there are some critters that can be hunted on Sundays. However there are alot of people walking around in the woods right now - granted most are other hunters. I actually don't mind people walking through where I'm hunting - unless it's another hunter who decides to sit under my tree while I'm there(yes it happens). As an archery hunter I believe that it gets the deer up and moving. About the only time I don't like people is during the spring turkey season and most of those have been other "hunters" that came to my calling. Although I've also dealt with a few irate non-hunters in the spring.
If you do go out make sure you are wearing the required florescent orange on any GL's during the fall no matter what activity you are doing. Not a bad idea to wear it on other public lands too even if not required by law.

As a person who hunts a variety of ways in the fall here is my $.02 for around here. 1st Sunday would definitely be best. Most gamelands in this area stock pheasants so nobody is sitting in trees archery hunting all the way up to Thanksgiving week on gamelands. And you can't disturb small game hunters while fishing. After Thanksgiving deer season with guns comes in and small game goes out. There will be guys in trees with guns on gamelands then. Definitely definitely definitely wear orange after Thanksgiving. Long as you are courteous there should be no issues.

Oh definitely wear orange before Thanksgiving also. Every gamelands or state park parking lot that allows hunting has a sign that reads Hunters wear orange so should you.

I will definitely be wearing orange. So if I go before Thanksgiving it's safe to go on Saturdays?
The SGLs are heavily forested, I don't think pheasant hunting will be an issue(?)
Thanks for the advice

Definitely safer to go before Thanksgiving than after.
