The day started off with hitting a severe downpour on the way to the lake; not what I was hoping for, haha. By the time I got to Blue Marsh the rain had stopped but the boat was drenched; thank goodness for the bilge pump. Anyway; I headed out on the lake hitting all of my normal spots which involves lots of shallow water and lots of wood cover. Even my most productive spots drew a blank for me. The rain must have chased them out of the shallows. After 3.5 hours with not even a nibble I decided to change it up a bit. I am a shallow water fisherman; that is my comfort zone but I knew the day so far was a bust. I headed out to one of the main lake points and sat in about 15' of water. 10 minutes later I had 3 bass for the day with one of them weighing just over 3 lbs. (the other 2 were legal but barely). I then hit a few other spots but struck out. But if I can head out to Blue Marsh and catch 3 "keepers" I consider that a positive day. I hadn't been out on the lake in a little while so it just felt good to be out there running the boat a bit as well.

Not a great way to start the day off haha but at least you made the best of it and caught some good fish! Nice way to adapt. Shallow water is definitely more my style as well.

When it comes to fishing "deeper" water; well.....it's not my thing, haha. But I better start to learn because like yesterday; the shallow water bite was non-existent. Had I been more confident in deeper water I would not have spent 3+ hours fishing dead water. I broke out the Neko Rig yesterday which I have previously only tied on a handful of times before; but in just 10 minutes yesterday I now feel confident in that technique. Maybe next time on the water I will not hesitate to move out to the points more quickly if the shallow bite isn't there.

Always nice to gain some confidence in a new technique, specially if it only takes 10 minutes haha. I've never tried the Neko Rig but I can see how it would be effective.
