I was browsing around on Google maps today and noticed Fernhill Lake in West Goshen. I was wondering if anyone has any info about fishing there. Is it even open to the public? I mostly fish for bass from my kayak and it looks like it would be a great spot but I didn't see anything that looked like a parking area or even a place to launch from.
Thanks in advance for any info.

Thanks for the link mszoke1802. I've never used the hook and bullet site before so i'm not sure how valid the info is but it can't hurt to try I guess.

That's all fenced off. No trespassing. Unless something's changed recently. Used to be open in the 90's. It was very popular.

Trust me, it is fenced off and posted. It was open when I moved out to WC in the mid 90s but was closed in the late 90s when Aqua PA bought the property. I signed a petition to clean the area of trash at least once per month in vain effort to keep it open but the old "liability" argument shut the door on the lake. I run in West Goshen park which borders it to the west and can assure you that the shoreline is fenced in completely. It is a shame because it was a good fishery for bass and a sleeper for nice crappie. The water there now is usually greenish/brown most of the time now which is a more recent development (say the past 5 or s years). The water coming out of it is a branch of Chester creek and is too tiny to fish but does connect with a small pond near route 3. That pond is ALWAYS muddy a is infested with the following: geese, turtles, carp and bullheads. Shoreline access is nonexistent due to heavy vegetation but there is access to the dam itself. Good place to take the kiddos for some panfish or bullheads but that is pretty much it.

I pass that lake everyday going to school, it's a reservoir and it's illegal to fish there. Never heard of anyone ever fishing there before or any success. Even if you wanted to try illegally, there is no way I know to launch, most of it is fenced off

I used to fish the Pickering Reservoir all the time but after being chased out a few times by Aqua i've stopped going.

Reservoir is better known as "West Chester Reservoir" in its day. The lake in the 80's was a crappie honey hole in the spring. 10"-12" crappies were the norm. Largemouth bass were also huge in the lake, many 6-7 lb fish were regularly caught. Before they closed he lake they drew the water down quite low and the bass were stacked up and easy to catch. That was when the fence was installed and closed down. Fishing was only from shore, no boats allowed, although their was a catwalk off the dam on airport road, that was a crappie hotspot, in the spring.

How can we as fisherman change these closed Lakes? It's crazy all these places to fish are closed down. Any ideas guys?

I sorely miss that lake as well as Springton. WC Reservoir is under 2 miles from my home and was a great place to fish. My experience there is right in line with GssEagle's comments. I caught more than my share of big bass there when I first moved out this way. As for crappie it was hands down the best around for both size and quantity. I had a field day on them on Christmas day (afternoon) on year right off the dam. I will never forget it!
Sadly, the liability card is what we are going to continue to hear when these lakes become property of businesses. I hate it but I also understand why they do it. Any business has a responsibility to protect itself. In the litigious world that we all now live in it is pretty much necessary. I don't think there is any way to get around that unless the property was bought out. I also don't trespass....fishing while looking over my shoulder = no fun. Every time I drive by it I wish for the days when it was open.

Thanks for all the info Gsseagle and teb67gt. Sounds like it was a great spot and it probably still is today but if it's closed then that's that. At least its now basically a nature preserve I guess since no one can go there.
