I've been fishing Green Lane a bit this year, catching a few bass & panfish and watching the carp roll around. Looking at very old threads & lake reports I see that in the past there were some reports of decent muskie fishing. I don't see any recent stocking info though, so I'm assuming whatever was there has died of old age by now. Does anyone know anything more about GL stocking? The PFBC site doesn't have too much detail. I'm curious about why the lake doesn't seem to have much to offer in the way of muskie or pike.

I live near there and was thinking of going to see how I do. I fish from the shore (for now) and predominantly fish for LM......any tips, etc? Thanks!!

I've been fishing the lake for 40 years. The muskies have been gone for around 20 years. If there is some left they are true monsters. The pike were last stocked around 8 years ago. only 1700 fingerlings to 17 inches. Nothing has been put in since. Those pike are over 40 inches right now. The thing is they are few and far between. Most are over the 663 bridge up by where they stock trout. they stay there sucking down a free meal. In the last couple years we've had about 7 bite offs. played a fish 2 years ago for 20 minutes until he just left the bait go and was gone. I'll say though there is some giant flatheads in the lake and channels. Catch them while fishing for bass on salty spiders they seem to love them. Most hang around the bridges or off the rocks. Crappies are everywhere getting good ones is a different story. Our biggest this year is about 14 inches fishing jigs in the channel up by the bridge. More pellow perch re showing up some up to 11 inches. Right now its the summer dog days. That means hooking up with nice fish has to be earned. When the temps start to drop the big boys will come up along the banks around the channels. also on weed edges close to deep water bass typw crank baits will get the bigger fish to hit. the salty spider does good on the rocks and shallows near deep water brakes. Our biggest fish is a 8 1/2 lb largemouth. That was during september. I post fishing reports of the different lakes we fish often on my web site. go to any search engine and put in knappys outdoor adventures. check it often i hit alot of various lakes for different species year round. We also hit canada, new york, the salt water and the chesapeake. If you need info on any body of water we have fishe ill be glad to pass on any good info to you. With no B.S. Back to green lane the pike fishing on that lake in the 70's and 80's gave up the biggest pike and muskies anywhere. But once average anglers started to see how we were catching them they cleaned them out. Thats a shame. Hope this helps God Bless America.

Are there camping grounds on Green Lane? If I were to ever make the trip, I would want to stay more then one day. Also it's easier to cover ground on the lake within multiple days.

I grew up there, and when I was in high school I worked at the park. Allen is right I've seen pictures from the 70's and 80's. The stringers of bass, and numbers of giant pike and musky were unreal. There is still some good bass fishing there dispite the poor reputation it has had over the years. The major downfall to this lake is that you can't simply drive there and launch a boat.

Now that the dog days of summer are over it's time. During the last 3 weeks we've been hitting various lake, Struble lake along with green lane very often. Just the other day we hit the lake after 4 days of high winds and rain. With the wind still coming from the north east we tried many presentations until we found a pattern emerging. As the rain brought the water temps down to the high 60's and low 70's fish began to return to the shallows. A hard wind beating the eastern banks with a great chop and the sun warming after noon we started catching good fish. Our lure that did the trick was a small to medium size beatle spin followed by a charteous trailer. The prime depth was about 6 feet deep. The lures were worked down near bottom at a moderate retrieve. when the bite slowed or we missed a few fish we went back to the 1/16 to 1/8th oz jig charteuse trailer green head. This made the fussy fish hit. Although we started slow in the morning with few bites. Changing lure prestentations and the warming water brought the bigger fish into the shallows. By 2:30 P.M. Our numbers of bass were around 15. One thing we did observe was the small mouth population is growing. A few smaller smallies plus my 4 lbér and Danny Boy losing a real good one. Fighting the fish for a couple minutes and getting a good look at him before a spectacular jump. The big smaalie threw the lure back in his face. The most active fish was the largemouths going from 3 to 4 1/2 lb's. Believe me it sounded like we were in fish most of the day. But every fish we landed had to be really worked for. The next few weeks should be interesting We've found that most of the bigger fish are caught during this time of the year. Check my web site out by going to any search engine and putting in knappys outdoor adventures. Check our success for the local lakes along with areas from Canada to New York the Jersey Shore and the Chesapeake. Drop me a line on my guestbook for any info. Take Care God Bless God Bless America.
