Using my holy grail for finding new fishing spots, by looking for blue spots on Google Maps , I came across the Pickering Creek, that leads into the Reservoir. Just wondering if it legal to fish there, and if anyone else has been there before. Seemed like a fun kayaking adventure, which I am looking for

I have but its owned by Aqua and not allowed in there. I launched a Jon boat not knowing. It's real shallow and a muddy mess. Mostly small carp.

Darn shame they don't open up Pickering, used to go there years ago, some nice bass, very good crappie fishing with some large ones, plenty of bluegills and hybrid sunfish. Yes plenty of carp in the lake while paddling or using your electric motor to get up near the dam. I'm still ticked off about the no fishing there. Think I heard they used the 9-11 tragedy as an excuse to close the lake for security reasons. Miss fishing there a lot and only 15 minutes from where I live.

I went there with a buddy and we parked in aquas driveway not knowing it looked like a residential driveway that had the aqua drive attached. we fished under the dam under the bridge without getting kicked out then we wanted to try to go into the lake didnt really want to hop a fence with a bunch of gear to then get caught so went back under the dam. about 30 mins later a cop came and kicked us out. The cop said if we had parked somewhere else and walked down under he probably wouldnt have gotten called so it is illigal to fish there i guess. We caught tons of bass one walleye and a channel catfish. the bass were no bigger than a foot the catfish was about 3-4 pounds mabye 2 feet long. so i do plan on going back and parking somewhere else. the cop also said above whitehorse rd you are allowed to fish in the pickering creek so might try that too. hope this helps

Do you know if Aqua cares about the area bellow (west) of Whitehorse road bridge? I drove down Creek road for a job and saw plenty of places to pull over with no warning or posted signs to be seen.
looks like small mouth water

If you actually drove down Creek road from whitehorse to Rt. 29 you would see it is posted. I drive this road twice a day and I see the signs each time. I know people that were ticketed fishing there. But hey go right ahead.

I used to fish the creek just above the bridge on whitehorse. I would park at that pull off there on creek road. Some really nice large and smallmouth bass in that area. It was always posted as no wading or boating, but then the signs got larger and pretty much restrict access there for anything so i stopped fishing it. Plus the police station is just across the road. Too bad bc the fishing there was good certain times of the year. Blame Aqua for shutting down the lake and its tributaries. Just think of how big those trout are in that lake that made it all the way down stream....

small chuckle.....i think most of us who have fished the Pickering open/regulated area on 29 have explored the area up on Creek Rd and drooled over the nice looking water, not to mention wanting to fish the reservoir. i'm not real crazy over all the water that Aqua has blocked off from fishing all over SE PA...but that's for another post - actually, i think we're due for another posting to rant on Aqua.
the kind of water most of you are looking for - kayaking, smallies i think you'll find in the West Branch of the Brandywine below West Chester (look up Northbrook canoe rentals). Fair warning - the WB is usually pretty low this time of year and the fish get spooked pretty easily by all the rafters, tubers, etc.

Used to go on Pickering reservoir back before it was closed off. I had some great fishing there and I want to try to make it back in. Is there a way to avoid the area that has been closed down just above the bridge and put in the kayak above that and paddle down?

I think it can be done, I have thought about leaving a car at the elementary school there and dragging kayak down into creek. I've seen people back there
