Went down to Deer Creek yesterday morning for my first trip of the year for shad. I only fished Deer Creek and caught a couple, but everybody that was there caught a few as well. Plenty of herring were in Deer Creek which is good to see again. I think as soon as the water warms up again the bite will be back on like it was this past weekend on the main river. They've also been getting them for a little while now out in the main river and at the mouth of Deer Creek. I've heard of some American/white shad being in the mix as well.

Tough to describe. Get some 1/4 and 1/8 ounce in various colors and watch the guys fishing for a while then give it a try. Use 6 lb test on medium rod

Cast darts and spoons upstream and let them bounce along the bottom. Or some variation on that depending on the situation.

wader 105 - go to conowingo dam and park at the dam. Climb down the rocks and go fish!! It's really that easy. Some spots can be better than others depending on how much water is released, but you'll learn those areas in time.
As far as darts, I run 10lb mainline to a small barrel swivel then attach a 4"-6" 10lb tag line on the swivel and attach a 1/4 ounce dart. I also attach a piece 8lb tippet about 24"-36" to the swivel and attach a 1/8 ounce or smaller dart or spoon.
I rarely cast upstream and never let the darts bounce bottom. I cast straight out or slightly downstream, get the line tight and let the darts swing to shore while keeping the rod tip low and twitching the tip. After each twitch feed the rod tip back downstream at the speed of the current so the dart will drop slightly. This is when I get most of the hits. Most guys just cast and reel and they catch them, but you have to figure out how they want the lures presented each day. Current speed will also effect your presentation and size of darts as well.
If I wasn't heading to slate run this weekend I would be down both sat and sunday. Hoping to get back down on tuesday for some more action.
Good luck!! Frank

It's been few years but those Tony's spoons worked really well. Usually used them in combination with darts. Don't rule out bouncing off the bottom. We've had 100 + fish days using that technique. Whatever works.
