Maybe it could be the information highway message board.............come catch our fish. Clubs from other states any many non local PA clubs have shown up the last couple of years, they pre fish then have tournys. Non tourny fisherman come from all over too. Maybe we need to keep things out of the publics view and clubs post results. Word travels fast. MC overflow trailer parking is jammed half the time. Another factor in this area with all the fishing on TV has interduced alot of new fisherman creating too many fisherman and not enough water here in little lake country........SE PA

I used to think like that and it probably has merit. I was once very irrate when I saw reports on another board for a local smaller lake. With all the pressure even Marsh becomes a small lake. I don't think thats it though. if you are spending all that gas money for bass fishing because you come out of state, I doubt you just come to catch and eat bass, 3 at the most and must be 15".If you recall this lake was not so hot (for most) before the "big bass lake rules" . either way its too late, word gets around and now the fishing stinks anyway. from what I know, new jersey bass fishing blows SE pa. away. delaware however I hear is even worst with congestion. lets face it though, you won't get 25-35 boats on a weeknight or 35 MORE on a weekend without a tournament. people do travel for those

I have read every post on this leg about MC and TM fishing.
My thoughts go back a few years when it was that we only had tackle shops like Gordons, now we have Cabela's, Gander Mtn, Bass pro, dicks, Target, Walmart, they all sell fishing tackle, but did we get any new water to fish in.
If we are going to be able to catch a few bass every-time we go fishing, a few things might have to change in the future as more and more lures and baits are cast to the few bass that are left.
Not to blow smoke, I do know a little about bass fishing even tho I now only fish for panfish.
After winning bass angler of the year twice in, Central Pa Bass Anglers and qualifying for the B.A.S.S regional at Raystown, I decided I had enuff and layed down my bass rod and picked up my panfish rod and never looked back.
Saying all that to say this, I saw a decline in the bass numbers all over the state, including the big rivers.
We all know the man who made bass fishing important and bass clubs sprang up all over the place.
So what can we ( or bass clubs ) do to insure that bass fishing will always be here( that isn't being done already, like structuring a lake.)
Make dang sure a bass will live to be caught another day after its released.
Make sure the bass have good habitat to spawn in and the food to grow to legal size.
Have the PFBC monitor and regulate TM so as not to reduce the bass population in any given body of water.
Watch the TM in hot weather, disaster time for any caught bass.
Maybe my 2 cents ain't worth much anymore, but I am having the time of my life catching panfish.
Thanks for listening, no shut up and fish.

I recently started crimping down the barbs on ALL my hooks. Makes a big difference. More fish get off but they stay much healthier that way

Again, I commend everyone who has taken the time to post a comment, this shows how many really care about the sport. There is no doubt that MC is heavily pressured by both Tournament & recreational fishing. If there is any doubt, just drive by the Bridge on Little Conestoga Road in March & April & see for yourself. It's not just the Bass being pressured, any & all fish. Gordon's holds a Crappie Tournament ( 3 years now) which is fun & informative to see the size being caught.Oddly, with or without this Tx, that Bridge is always crowded ( elbow to elbow) during the Crappie spawn. Yes, it's a fact, this area is densely populated & fishing locations are seeing more & more people & pressure. Also, I have witnessed numerous people fill buckets with any & all size panfish they would catch. This brings up a topic of abiding by the law. which for the most part many of us do, the ones who don't have no respect for the sport or the future of fishing. They must be stopped, if you see any of this behavior, a quick call to the Park Office will help, anyone who knows MC also knows Bob Bonney & he is more then eager to investigate.Altho there is no size limit to some of the panfish, good discretion & release needs to be practiced. Buckets of more than 50 fish have been all too common leaving the Lake. Word of Mouth is deadly too, during the Crappie spawn as an example, once the fish are in, people show up from all over, most that come from a distance do not share the same sentiments as those who live close to the Lake, by that I mean it doesn't phase them to litter or bucket all & any fish caught or even fish without a liscense or bucket a Bass out of season. When the Crappie are gone, they are gone but traces of them are all along the banks. (litter & dead fish) There are so many factors as to the decline, sadly, most of them are out of our control such as Tx's because of the popularity of it. We should be sharing our concerns with the Clubs who hold these Tx's & the people who come use the Lake. I could go on & on, but I 'll stop here, why? because I'm off to MC to enjoy some fishing!
