Hello all,
I was thinking about hitting Marsh Creek on Saturday and going out for Muskie. I have never fished for them before. I have some steal leader and a few in line muskie killer spinners. Does anyone have any advice as to which sections of the lake to target as well as retrieve techniques. I would love to catch one of these big fellas. Of course if i do get one in the boat he will be back in the water after a quick picture. Thanks for the help.

VanMC, I fish MC a lot for skies and as far as area, they are all over the lake. I have seen them all over. What i can tell is look for weeds close to deep water...they like to hang on the outside edges of weed... Also i would recommend a big net that can fit a muskie in it. Most muskies die not only from being kept but how they are landed and handled. I have cradle i use but a big game net will work too. One more thing i recommend is a good set of plyers or wirecutters...Muskies are much more powerful then handling a bass and one wrong move can be a ugly situation...i know from experience, unfortunatly... Good luck... SebSkie

Sebass,
Thanks for the advice. I actually did not go out for the Muskies yesterday because my buddy couldn't come with. I figured even if I was lucky enough to catch one it would be irresponsible trying to boat one alone plus who would take the picture before I let it go. I am strictly catch and release accept for panfish. Which I caught a bunch of this weekend. My pop and I went back out today for Crappies and had a great day. That Old Bay Beer batter is good on those crappies.
Also how did you know who I was when you saw me on the water? And did you and your friend have any luck on Saturday?

Vanmc,
Yea i hear you on fishing alone. I actually bought a big game net, that is huge to fish for skies when i am by myself. That way i can land fish and keep in water and take pic in net without risking any injury to the fish.
If that was you in the tracker by the lyndell office, I thought you were the guy i have been talking to on just4thought message board. I recognized the boat from the post. If that wasn't you, sorry......
We did pretty good sat for bass but we were going to skies....lol Seems like the bass had a big appetite that day since they were hitting skie' plugs.....
SebSkie (aka SebBass, sorry been bitting by the skie' bug!)

Just a note, after all else fails, try a sunnie for bait, my brother had a huge muskie take his bluegill as he was realing it in.
I guess the eratic movement made the diff.

What are some good lures to use for muskies?
The only ones I'd have that I consider using are 7" Rapala Originals one in Gold and one in Shiner. I also have a Mepps Musky Killer. I've caught a 14" tiger musky in Marsh Creek before with a Bomber 6A in Red Crawdad, but I'm interested in catching something big.
