I would like to start fishing the lower Susquehanna- around Long Level (Lake Clarke) and maybe Lake Aldred areas. I have a 17' Starcraft (alum) with 90 HP and 80# electric. I do not want to try real shallow b/c of the boat and rocks I hear about. I am used to Lake fishing (mainly shallow), with artificials, mainly for largemouth.
Can you give any advice for fishing this area?

I've fished Aldred twice but I was with my friend with a jet boat. However, if I remember right, you can run a prop upstream almost to the dam as long as you stay on the right side. We did see folks with glass boats fishing up in and around the rocks but I don't know how they got there. We did catch lots of nice smallies in the rocks so take your time and you should be ok.

Lake Clarke is very prop friendly for the most part. Not really any rocks to worry about until you go up towards the islands/bridges, but it is still navigable if the water level is good and you're careful. I've only been there a few times but caught good numbers of largemouths in Clarke, and biggest was a 4+ lber.

I have fished all of the lakes on the lower Susquehanna, Clark, Aldred and Conowingo. I don't think the fishing is as good as it used to be. Your best bet is spring and fall but you can catch them in the summer. It's been a while since I have fished any of these lakes but my pick would be Conowingo, I think it's the better lake for bass fishing. Like I said it's been a while since I fished any of them so give all of them a try, just be carefull in the upper ends around the islands and rocks and if you do deside to give Conowingo a shot be carefull belowe the islands, there is a lot of floating wood .
