I have a cottage in upstate NY on Black Lake. I was up there a few weeks ago and decided to fish the St. Lawrence River a bit. It has excellent smallie fishing and I was really surprised by the walleye - big and fat! I had one smallie almost jump into the boat (watch the video below). www.youtube.com/watch?v=aW79f3-xANk

Beautiful fish. Those smallmouths are impressive (walleyed too). I fished the thousand islands for a week on vacation years ago and always wanted to go back but have never made it. Seen the 1000 Islands was ranked pretty high in the B.A.S.S. top 100 bash fisheries in North America this year too. I agree with you it is a beautiful place to fish. Great video too.

Thanks.
The smallies and walleye are getting huge eating the gobies, and the muskie are getting huge eating the walleye.
It sure is big water up there, but a good GPS and contour map makes it pretty easy to find and catch fish. Just be ready to fish deep.

I'll be on the river for 2 weeks, starting on the 28th of this month. Looking forward to it, as I haven't had the boat out since I was there in June.
