Ahhh...the temperatures are falling, the leaves are gone. The waters are getting close to the magical 39.2 deg F mark. Soon enough my friends, soon enough. Until then have pleasant dreams of big fish through small holes.
A bit early but I'm getting excited for another season

Hope these cold temps aren't just a tease and we end up getting into the 50's in late December!

Weather forecast looks promising ;D. I think the most important thing is that the lakes and ponds are done turning and the surface water temps are at the right place. My parents pond had a 1/4 " of ice already. It's the warm spells after the lakes have fishable ice that's the killer. Remember the first week of February two years ago?
I'm excited, my gear is ready to go.

Got that right. Temperatures are great, wind is a killer. I bet the ponds in the area would be capped by now if the wind would have died down for a couple of days. Oh well, plenty of deer to stalk and small game to hunt before good ice.

Wow! A couple of nights without wind and temps in the lower 20's and look what happens, Marsh creek was covered as far as I could see and Strubble Lake has a layer of Ice. Almost an Inch thick. Good foundation for the next couple of weeks. Keeps this up we may be fishing by Christmas.

Hopewell and Scotts Run are also iced over. Was at Struble Weds and it had open water. It almost completely iced up in one night. Also saw an inmature Bald Eagle sitting on the ice there today. A couple of crows were tring to harrass it, but it wasn't taking any crap from them! Looked like he had lunch in it's claws, and they wanted a bite.

From what I understand it is open to fishing but no boats. Also I don't think there is a parking lot unless someone else can chime in who knows otherwise. This is the closest lake to me and I plan on hitting it pretty hard this winter. I also herd there are a lot of white perch in it. Guess we'll have to thin the population some.

Coatesville res. has years that are hit and miss. I also live close and fish there a lot, except the past two years. Did well there 3 yrs. ago but the last two years stunk. Very small crappie, gills, and perch. Perch seem to average 3-4 oin long. Guess they need a few muskies in there to get rid of some of the small stuff. Many geese there also seem to keep the middle of the reservoir open until late in the ice season. You can park along the lake, but if it snows a lot I suggest you take along a snow shovel. When they plow the road all the snow ends up in the areas where you park. Hope this helps. Was just by there and the ice that was forming is gone but I'm sure it will re-freeze in the next couple of days.
