This is about as far afield as you can get on the east Coast.
When I was a wee bit younger, I had a thing for the Everglades, and made several forays down there. I'd always rent a 38' houseboat in the village of Flamingo, tie a canoe or kayak to the back & go into the back country for several days at a time. For anybody that has fished those waters, it's a fishing paradise & you never know what's gonna latch onto the end of your line.
The houseboat slept 8, but I'd usually go by myself, once or twice with a partner.
You'd catch plenty of Snook, Reds, Trout, tarpon, Ladyfish, Sharks of all types & sizes, Sheepsheads, Groupers and a host of others.
One day, my partner & I were in the Shark River Inlet, we paddled out into the gulf about a mile, even out that far, in some places the water was only 4 or 5' deep. Anyway, this particular day, for about 200 to 300 yards, our canoe was shadowed by a very large Lemon Shark, a 10 footer. Lemon's aren't known maneaters, but on occasion attacked people. As long as we didn't tip the boat, I wasn't too worried. Lemon's are known to be particularly attractive to Remoras, and this one was no exception. You could see several all over this thing.
My partner kept buzzing a Mepps 3 over this shark, for what I don't know, but one of those Remoras detached & hit the Mepps. Darndest thing I ever saw. If you can enlarge it, you can get a good look at the suckers.
The other fish is a Gafftopsail Catfish, take a close look at his dorsal, it's awesome. I was just flipping thru one of my albums and though it might be interesting to post.
