As I was leaving the gym at 9am this morning, I glanced across the parking lot, and saw a gentleman fishing a pond in Downingtown that I hadn't been to since my son was probably three years old. that was 19 years ago. Sooo, after a quick stop at Wawa for my second cup of coffee, I decided to stop by and take a look. I walked up and asked how he had been doing and he stated that he had gotten a few earlier, but it had slowed down alot. I walked the pond and was amazed at the quantity and size of the LM that were present. Most of the bass I saw were in the 4 to 6lb class, and the carp were huge. Gotta start leaving my son at home though, so I can catch some fish before he gets a line in the water. He got this carp about 10 minutes before we were getting ready to leave.

I recognize that pond. There's some big koi in there too. What bait did he catch the carp on? There's alligators in that pond. Ha ha, I think they put plastic gator heads in there to keep geese out. Even though geese don't migrate far enough south to ever see a gator.

Yea, your right, there are gators in there. Haha... Whole kernel corn was the bait of choice. Just throw out a handfull and then cast into the same area and we just let it sit with the bail open and shot the s*** until the line started movin out. Great fight on med bass tackle.

I didn't have much time after work to fish sunday but I remembered this thread and I was in the mood for a carp battle. Caught this mirror carp in the pond with the parking lot.

Nice mirror there takem.. one fish I still have yet to catch. My son and I were back at the other pond on Saturday and he got a 5lb largemouth out of the swampy little creek that flows beside it. Told you I have to leave him at home to catch anything. I wouldn't trade fishing with him for anything in the world.

That pond has always had a decent population of Bass, and gets weeded over in the summer. I've been known to slip in there in late summer and toss a frog or two. I've had some excellent days ( for a pond)
Regarding the 'Gator head decoy, I doubt it's effectiveness, but Geese do most certainly migrate to lakes that are 'gator infested. At the end of my road in Fla. there are about 15 acres of abandoned phosphate pits, loaded with both Bass and lots of 'gators. I've seen Canadians there on many occaisions. Also seen them at Santee, some big gators in there as well.

I have to correct you on a few things. The gators were put there for resident geese. They are the issue and do the most damage. Those geese you see in florida aren't the same you'll see here. Theres different sub species of canadian geese all over the country and canada they start at different points and travel all different distances. The geese you see here in nov, dec, jan don't go that far. Most geese you see in florida are resident geese. Had a Game warden from florida come up and hunt geese with me because they don't have the migration like we do. Floridas not exactly known for its geese. They do get some ducks coming through. It's not impossible but it's safe to say the geese you see on those ponds any time of year have never seen a gator.

sorry to stray off the gentlemans original post, but I am aware that the majority of geese hereabouts are residents. I also realize that the geese I see down south were not the same ones I saw camped out on the back nine at Whitford Country Club earlier in the year. But that's neither here nor there.
I was responding to your general statement of " Even though geese don't migrate far enough south to ever see a gator"
And again, yes, they do.
And I do agree, that it's highly unlikely that our downingtown geese have ever seen a gator.
I read my original post a couple times and am still a little fuzzy on the few things you need to correct me on.
That mirror carp's a pretty fish!

You have a whopping 1,000 geese migrate to florida. Thats nothing. Geese in downingtown don't know what gators are. I think Pa has something like 200,000 residents. I can't imagine the number of migrators that pass through. My original statement was making fun of gator heads in the pond because geese don't see them during their migration and thats true. Stick to bass talk. So sick of internet blow hards. I've seen your annoying threads about secret trees and measuring turtles. Damn you're annoying.

Just re read your post. "GENERAL STATEMENT" you said it. I made a general statement. geese don't migrate far enough to see gators. 99 percent of geese do not migrate far enough to see gators Thats pretty general. Are you seriously going to nit pick that much? Don't understand general? Go back and read the things you've written. You are pretentious babbling fool. YOU HAVE BEEN CORRECTED. The end
