Posted this on another site... still looking for some ideas...
Ok guys and gals, here's the deal..... I need some help with what to throw while fishing at Blue Marsh. I don't go there often, mostly just to run the outbaord three or four times a year. The boating is nice, the scenery is nice, (bikinis. tri-kinis and any other "kini' you can think of), I just would like some fish once in a while to round out the trip. I read reports from Nitro 989, bassfisherman75, and some other guys and I wonder how the heck are they getting these fish when I can't even get a bite. I got there this morning around ten, I know, I know, I just got a late start this morning. I am usually on the water by 430am. There must have been a tourney cause there were about fifteen boats coming off the water and the weigh-in bags were full. Some nice fish too, I saw a six pound LM in the mix. I am not looking for spots, just a good idea of what lures produce. I usually throw cranks, Senkos, spinnerbaits and jerk baits. If anyone has any information I will be willing to share some of my Marsh Creek secrets with them. I usually do well on that lake. I fish it every weekend. Either post here or pm. Thanks in advance.

I'm curious as well. I've only been there once in the past 10 years (to run the outboard....guess thats everyones idea and place haha) My guess is that its probably better early and late, away from the times everyones speed-boating all around the place.

I was there about 2 weeks ago with my kayak. I launched at the Sheidy ramp. Hardly any power boaters around at all but it was a Friday.
Fished from like 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Caught fish all day. Had about half dozen smallmouth and over the same amount of LM. A few catfish, many crappie, bluegills and a few perch. Maybe over 50 fish total.
I used mostly a small 1/16 jigs and road runners on my 4lb ultra light. Most of the LM bass were caught in the timber with a purple worm... texas rigged. You had to throw right in the heavy stuff so I'm not sure about crankbaits or spinnerbaits. The smallmouth and everything else were caught on the small jigs.
Most of all the other fish excluding a few LM were caught along the rocky cliff faces. The deeper the better 20+ feet. Throw the jig at the cliff face and get bit on the drop. Watch you line as the bait drops or else you can miss them. At times I had a fish on every cast. Some small fish but some good ones too.
I'm not giving away any secret spots. There are miles of rocky drop offs and acres of timber there. I had a great time and thought the fishing was pretty good. I know that lake has a bad rep though.
Good luck... hope this helps a little.

sounds like a good start. Catching is catching, I enjoy small action, more than no action!

Hey I fish Blue Marsh a decent amount, the key during the summer is deep. Find areas with rocks, I fish a lot of main lake points, and some of the coves in the main lake have deep structure. There's a submerged foundation by the state hill launch that has fish all year. I fish 2 things on blue marsh for most of the year- football jigs and tubes. Both work well, and if you locate a good spot you can do quite well. I would hit every point on the main lake all the way up to the no wake zone, there's a few good ones at the start of that area as well. pound the bottom off the banks with jigs and tubes. Green tubes with blue in them have worked well for me and I fish green pumpkin jigs as well. Hope this helps. It can be a frustrating lake but they are there.

blue marsh was my home lake for 20 years. maybe it's not the bait you are throwing maybe it's where you are fishing. try the no wake areas of the lake. I used to catch alot of huge fish up the spring creek arm. forget about the roadbeds most of them are silted in. but there are some old foundations and fish cribs around that hold fish go there in the fall when they lower the water and cruise around and you will find the structures to fish when the water is at full pool. hope this helps. p.s. try crayfish patterns.
