Son and I went to do some bass fishing and maybe he only caught 1 Smallmouth, but this monster cat was one we will talk about forever. My son caught her on a Mann's Stone Jig in a submerged bush. We really don't know how long it took to get her in, but it took quite awhile till we even got a look at her, weren't sure what it was, but we knew it wasn't a smallmouth! Wouldn't fit in our net and gripper pliers were useless as well. We both kneeled down and grabbed her in the bottom lip. Took both of us to lift her in and trying to weigh her with my Berkley 50Lb Digital was nearly impossible. I did get a weight of between 39 and 42.7Lbs when I finally got her aloft. 44" Length didn't get a girth. Very old fish and lots of battle scars..She swam away and no doubt will get a few more scars in her life. My son and his MONSTER:

Nice cattie. On monday we were trolling for strippers , thought I had a keeper. Turn out to be a 18" channel cat no battle scars but he still might get some. He hit on a plug at 12' tolin depth bottom was 34'. Go figure

Monster channel cat! congrats. Couple years ago I caught a cat with a big brand new rapala in his mouth. The guy probably thought he had the bass of a lifetime when he lost that lure.

That flathead record was beat, guess it was never updated on the PA fish website.
But at the same time if that fish really was upwards of 40lb, you guys just might have released a state record!
