I have been reading on another board that there is an incredible yellow perch bite going on in the Susky and Northeast River. They say its the best bite in 30 years and they are bigguns too. If the weather wasnt so ugly I would dust off the boat.

Jigger, I was fishing out in front of the VA Hospital last fall for bass and was catching yellow perch like crazy with crankbaits. They wouldn't leave the bait alone.

Apparently they fish for them with commercial nets and they changed the regs and thats why the good fishing for them now. Amazing what can happen when a fishery is exculded from commercial watermen or well regulated.

I'm heading down to N.E. on Thursday to splash the boat and try for some of those YP's. I'll post when I get back.

I have a friend that lives near the northeast river that catches hundreds of perch off of a dock every year around this time. Never made it down to try it. Sounds like fun.

I fished the N.E. river yesterday. The wife and I had a great day, took home a limit of nice perch. 12' of water, 1/16 oz jig with a minnow.

Can anyone give general directions to this location? I am having a tough time finding it on the MD DNR website. Thanks in advance ...

I live near the intersection of Rt30 and Rt10. From there you would travel south on Rt10 to the town of Oxford. Go thru the town and on the far side is a new traffic lite by a drug store. Go thru that lite and there is another one in about 100 yards. Turn left there, it's either Barnsley Rd or Chrome Rd. Follow that a few miles to the stop sign. Once you go past the stop sign, you are on Rt 272. Follow that to the town of North East, about a mile after you cross Rt 40 it will become one way in the town. Look for Herb's Tackle Shop on your right. You can get your license, bait, and good free info there. Call ahead to be sure they are open. 410-287-5290. At Herb's they can direct you to a boat launch or a place to bank fish. I launched my boat at Anchor Marine and only traveled about 3 or 4 hundred yards to fish. To get to Anchor boat launch, continue past Herb's till the road becomes 2 way again. There will be a sign on your right for the launch.
