Has anyone fished this lake before? My son wants to try for carp and I heard this might be a good spot. Hopefully there are some bass for me to fish for!!!!

Speedwell is loaded with carp! It also has a nice population of 12"-15" bass. I walked along the shoreline during the spawn and was very surprised at how many bass I saw. I always get 3 or 4 when I fish it which is usually 4-5 times a year, but I never imagined there were that many bass in that lake. Good luck to you and use spinnerbaits, spinnerbaits, and spinnerbaits! MikeS

Mikes, Thanks for the info, I will be there on Saturday. I will post to let everyone know how I did. Spinnerbaits are my bait of choice, especially when the water is stained like it was in Speedwell.

I found it on a map. Are you allowed on the lake at night? Couldn't find any info on that on the website.

Speedwell is located off of RT. 322 just east of the town of Clay. About 10-12 miles outside of Ephrata. I heard that the lake has a good population of channel catfish also. I haven't caught a decent catty since I left Arizona.

It's about five miles north of Lititz on Brubaker Valley Road. [ftp]http://www.fish.state.pa.us/water/county/pfbcmaps/lanc.htm[/ftp] The lake is number 909 on the map.

I bowfished speedwell the other night. Got 13 carp. They were all small. The lake seems pretty carped out. Kinda like struble. Very muddy and no plants. Did see some small bass and catfish. There was quite a few guys catfishing and the ones I talked to did pretty well. Some were in boats and some fishing near the ramps. I'd say its worth a try for some channels and plenty of carp. The far end of the lake is very very shallow and completely mudded up from carp. I jumped up hundreds back there in less than 2 foot of water and I couldn't even see them cause of the mud. It would be impossible not to catch some carp. Hope that helps arizona angler.
