I just moved to Romansville from Jersey and want to do some fishing in the Brandywine, mainly for Smallies. What areas should I target???

I used to fish the area upstream & downstream of Rt. 1 in Chadds Ford. Never got anything over a pound or a little bigger, though. Access is easy and good fishing with kids. I parked at the Byandywine River Museum. I'm sure someone has a better area but this might work.

shinerking,
There is a good section of the Brandywine right behind the Embreeville State Police Barracks on Rt 162. Take Stargazer Rd to Rt 162 make a quick left go about 250-300 yards and park at the old bridge. I like to fish from the bridge and head downstream. There are a few deep holes along that stretch that hold some good fish. My best was a 20" smallie that went at least a 3.5 lbs on ultralight gear. Fun fight!
If you continue down Rt 162 about 3/4 of a mile then turn right on Brandywine Road and travel 1/4 of a mile there is another parking spot right beside the stream. This spot is just down stream from the first spot. (If you have someone else to fish with this is a good spot to park a second vehicle and fish down from the first spot I mentioned). It is about a 3/4 of a mile stretch.
I can't make any promises on the smallies, but they are definitely there.
Good luck
Check your email.

I am also new to fishing the Brandywine for smallies but am interested in learning. What do you guys recommend in the way of bait (artificials or live bait) this time of year. I prefer artificials but do not know which one is going to give me the best odds. Cabin fever is setting in and would love a chance at one of these stream smallies. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try some small grubs (Mister Twister type) or Rooster Tails. You could also try some baby craws. I think smaller for this time of year. Good luck!

thanks for the advice. with a couple of days off from work I can't think of a better way to pass time than to go fishing. I'll let you know how I do.

Never made it out last week, my son was home with the flu both of my days off. I was hoping to try this weekend but with all of the rain we got last night I'm not sure if it will be fishable. I will have to drive by and take a look later in the week. After seeing some of the pictures on the last post I really have the itch to hook into one of those smallies.
