They are quilbacks. Quilbacks are native to the river. Why would you shoot them?

Go to PFBC site and read a little. There is a pretty big gap between quilbacks and carp. Carp are considered a nuisance because they will eat anything, most of the time uprooting vegetation causing the water to be murky. Not to mention, they are not native to the US. Quilbacks, on the other hand, are one the few fish native(unlike bass, channel cats, etc etc). Plus they don't go around causing the "problems" that carp do. I have no problem with carp. Nor do I have a problem with bow fishing. BUT, 1) Why shoot a native fish? I'm sure some would throw hissy fits if I threw up a picture of 5lb bass in a trash can. 2) If your going to do it, feeding them to the raccoons is no way of disposing them. Not to mention it's illegal...

direct quote off of PFBC web site "BOW AND ARROW (including compound bows and crossbows) may be used for taking ONLY carp and suckers on all Commonwealth waters, day or night, except in approved trout waters during the closed season and in special regulation waters. On the Delaware River, catfish and herring (shad excepted) may also be taken with bow and arrow (including compound bow and crossbow), spear or gig, except within 275 yards of an eel weir. " Carp are different than quillback i was mistaken, they are in the same species but different family, carp are Cyprinidae and Quill backs are Catostomidae or suckers and by the regualtions you can shoot all the carp and suckers you want, so why not, you wanna complain about killing native animals, then why shoot deer, or turkeys or ducks, you may not agree but it is legal, and nobody ever said they were feeding these things to coons so dont make that assumption

yeah thats a good spot. I said I was done defending myself but this is for Jfisher, Looks like dumping them on my fathers property is completely legal. This is from the PA fish and boat commision: It is unlawful to discard any fish carcass or parts thereof into the waters of the Commonwealth or upon any public or private lands contiguous to the waters unless disposal is on lands with permission from the landowner or it is where fish are properly disposed into suitable garbage or refuse collection systems or at an officially recognized fish cleaning station.

jfisher, before you start accusing people of doing illegal things maybe you should read a little on the PFBC site. Goldfish are illegal to use as bait. I believe you have a post here with pics saying that you do. www.fish.state.pa.us/fishpub/summary/bait.html They also encourage you to keep the flatheads you catch.

Kinda hard to defend when you have ANGLERS against you. Being new here and reading your post, most of them are surrounded by killing stuff, and judging by your Photobucket, your really not a fisherman, theres like 3 pictures of you with a rod. I think you should leave the fishing post alone, and stay to your hunting threads, then you really don't have to defend yourself. I could care less what you do, just think your post are kinda, well-info less. And to answer jfisher, about why shoot native fish? It makes him feel good, the whole look what i shot thing.
