Was kayak fishing at MC today from 3:30-7:30 pm. Water temp 66-68 degrees. Water was 2-3’ low in my estimation (a guess) Packed with people! 10 fish, most very small. 1- snakehead 5 -small bass 3- perch 1-bluegill I did not see any beds yet. Even at these temperatures. I wonder if the temps rose too fast? It seems the bass are not ready to spawn yet. JMO. Really different fishing with water this low. I need advice on Handle that snakehead. I believe your supposed to kill them, but he came off the hook before I could finish landing. Crazy strong fish. How do you grab them? Do they have teeth? - I have now ordered a landing net to keep on my kayak, so I can safely land a snakehead, if I should ever catch one again.

hey bassfever
i was out on 4/18 and had similar luck: -12 perch - 6 bass (mostly small; one just under 2 pounds)
absolutely, no one around. lake all to myself
since i'm wading, water felt maybe a little colder than you registered, but i agree - i think water tempted up a bit too soon to actually trigger spawn. maybe in the next couple of weeks - i saw no beds either. although i was very pleased to see lots of small bass (bit bigger than fingerlings).
i would agree with approx water level down. no ramps in on lyndel side. above the bridge is mostly mud flats. however, this is a good time to mark where the spider cribs are (maybe save you a couple lures this year!) i did notice big difference in water clarity in different areas of the lake.
tight lines, bud.

Don't kill and throw back. I use a gripper for them because they do have teeth. They are an awesome fight though and good eating from what I've read. Tom

I now have a net. That should help. As far as a gripper, I have one, but that crazy thing would not open its mouth! I now also have a decent knife in my possession. I plan to do better if there is another catch.
