Never understood why they pull them so early? We are still most likely at least 2 months away with any significant ice.

My opinion has always been they pull them out so the pheasant hunters can hunt with ease. Notice it's always before pheasant season they pull them out. What really sux is prime walleye season is just about to get going and struble is very hard to bank fish.

What really sux is prime walleye season is just about to get going and struble is very hard to bank fish. That seems to be the case with the timing of removal. For me, this is prime fishing season, can't do the heat of the summer. In 2 months I'll be 71, trying to launch without a dock gets a little risky. It would be helpful to have an area of the bank cleared off to pull your boat to shore.

Up here We have Kearcher Creek.. There is a small P/L at the PFBC ramp. There was also a large park operated by the county. They had playground, picnic tables, pavilions for rent, benches, paved walking trail, fishing docks, real bathrooms and larger parking lots. A few years ago someone discovered an old battery casing(There were several old battery plants and it seems using "waste" as fill was a common practice back in the day). Anyway the County bailed out of their cheap lease for the park and abandoned it fearing clean-up costs. PFBC closed vehicle access to that side(you are still allowed to walk over there) and pretty much let it revert to nature. Two or 3 yrs ago a guy(at his cost) started cutting back the over grass grown along the paved trail and a few spots down to the water. It kind of caught on and several others joined his efforts, with the approval of the PFBC.... Sort of like the adopt a highway program.
UNTIL this year when the PFBC sort of reversed it's postion - claiming that work was being taken from their employees. Now when the county abandoned that side up till that guy started the PFBC employee's NEVER cut the grass on that side - just at the ramp area. I meant to stop over the other day after my Cabala's run and check on conditions but forgot. I don't know what actually happened but my guess is that the union filed a complaint.... So now a group of volunteers are out of business which is a pity considering how strapped for cash the PFBC is.
So my point to all the above..... MIDNIGHT WEED WHACKING...

I actually planned on heading over to struble to rabbit hunt week of the 31st. I'm on overnight shift and never deer hunt when I'm on that shift. And yes I plan on walking left instead of right to the pheasant stocking area. If I see safety zone signs I will stop hunting but I want to walk to the dam just to see if it's fish able. Back when I was between 6&10 you could fish the whole left side of the lake to the dam from bank. Not wading but actually from shore

Just A note about the last post. If you hunt on the left side of the lake you will be fined, if caught. On that side of the lake there is a large housing development that is hidden by a tree line, that falls within the safety zone. You will be fined according to Bob Bonney, our local fish warden / WCO.

Dang thanks for the heads up. So I'm guessing there are no safety zone signs there?

As a quick reference you can measure distances using many of the map sites on this here screen thingy. I use it when checking potential goose fields to make sure I'm not within 150 yards of ANY building. I double check a location with my range finder(use it more goose hunting than deer hunting LOL) and have handed it to local cops on several occasions to prove we are legal(the joys of suburban hunting). Also make sure you are not shooting into the safety zone... ie you are set up 200 yrds away from a house but your shot is raining down on that house
