Anyone ever fish the schuylkill canal? I was on another site and people were talking about it.

I've fished a "secret" part of the canal. This section is no longer connected to the river(except during floods). Caught largemouth and panfish nothing huge but some decent fish.

Was loaded with carp, 15 years ago, I had a friend who use to live next to produce junction. I fished the canal quite a bit and saw a lot of carp and cat fish. I haven't fished it for many years though

There's some carp but you're better off just fishing the river. It's pretty hard though not catch a carp in the river. That stretch below and above blackrock is loaded. Just fished near there last weekend. We were catfishing but you could see the carp swimming by.

Not sure about the size but there are definitely plenty of carp in the canal and like yellowlab said the river is plentiful too.

I fish the canal at Lock 60 often. Lots of carp and catfish. I posted a picture here a few weeks back of a 25 inch cat my nephew caught.

Have fished both the canal at Produce Junction and successful for shad. Fished the Schuylkill above Black Rock Dam up to the animal sanctuary and landed both catfish and carp. Worms was what I've been most successful with.

You got Shad in the canal? I've only heard of panfish, bass and catfish in there.

Come up to Ontelaunee lots of carp + cats. I was on West Shore Drive a few years back and there were a bunch of "pros" back past the closed bridge. Must have been a "club" outing or something.

Big Lake any suggestions? Not sure where the "closed bridge" is. I see west shore drive. Is it towards Ontelaunee rd or further towards moselem rd? I pass it every time i go to cabelas.

From 61 turn right onto 73 just passed the school turn left onto Ontelaunee Rd turn right onto Kindts Corner Rd which turns into West Shore Rd. There is a funky "S" with a parking area this is the end of the restricted area. Keep going and you will come to the closed bridge. When you see the water on your right the weeds thin out and you can fish from there up to the bridge. Or turn left at the bridge take the next right and follow that around and it will bring you back to West Shore. Turn right and head back towards the bridge. You will see the lily pads thin out as you get closer to the bridge. Those are two areas that the weeds aren't too bad, but really you can find other spots just about anywhere on the lake that offer up little mini weed free zones.
