I caught my favorite and oldest St Croix rod tip in a car door the other day. St Croix no longer supports the model I have due to age (pre-'04 Wild River series), so I could use a good recommendation for rod repair.
thanks -

Spinning Rod? If It's only a 1/2" or so you can Glue a New tip on.
If it's a fly rod it may not be repairable.

It's a spinning rod. The break is about 2.5" inches from the tip, so I'm not crazy about re-tipping and losing that much rod.

I've tried to epoxy that much of a broken glass rod on before, it did not turn out so well. The glued section was very stiff, and the action felt wrong.
if it's graphite I think your out of luck, but will reserve the right to be wrong.
is it a 2 piece?

Yes it is. I just got a referral from a friend. I'll see how it works out and let you know what happens.

I appreciate the help spending my money :-). For about a tenth of the price, I'm going to start with a repair and see how that works out first.

I had 2 Fenwick graphite rods repaired once. They were both broken about half way up the shaft. The repair lasted about 2 months and they both started breaking again. The shop owner (blouch's) then tried to put a ferrel and make them 2 piece rods. This lasted about 2 years and they started splinttering at the repairs. Ended up tossing both rods and starting over. My buddy has a G. Loomis rod that the tip broke off and he cut it down. Still is using it but says the action isn't the same. Good luck with your repair.

for what it's worth, couple years back i broke off the tip of my Orvis 7 piece Frequent Flyer 5wt. i had it for a couple years and was my absolute fav fly rod. i took it back to Orvis Downingtown store for them to send back to Orvis for repair or maybe just charge me for new end piece hoping it wouldn't be too expensive. Apparently they said repair would change the action drastically so they replaced the whole rod - no charge. even gave me back the old rod. Blew me away but i will say that wasn't the first time Orvis just replaced with new and no questions asked. LL Bean is same way. You pay a little more but you have to love the customer service attitude. so i guess my point is - you may be able to repair it, but it may not be the same rod you remember. on the other hand, i'm all for saving a buck when you can (just repaired my fav sneakers by gluing sole back on!!). give the repair a shot and i hope it works out for you.
