Went to Hopewell on Sunday; with the predicted 90+ temps once again I was all ready to punch the massive weedbeds out in front of the swimming pool area....to my surprise the weed beeds are gone. I found a few scattered clumps left over but that was it. Visibilty was 4-5 feet with the water being so clear and about 90% of the weeds are gone. Was this lake sprayed for weeds recently? I know there are certain types of weeds that die off in the summer heat but I have never know Hopewells weeds to just die off like that. I still managed to boat 5 bass and my son boated 2; but I certainly didnt think I would be breaking out the deep crankbaits yesterday. Oh....and what is that bright green stuff floating around in the water; I remember seeing the same thing last year but have no clue what it is. It looked the heaviest at the large cove to the left of the dam.

The weeds may have been sprayed but I don't know that's just a guess, as for the bright green stuff it's most likely some kind of an algae bloom. If you really want to know if they sprayed the weeds try calling the park office or email them if they have an email address.

Personally I'm glad they removed some of them. I stopped fishing Hopewell because the weeds were too much of a nuisance and killed my batteries. I know some guys may like to fish the thick grass, but I say good riddance!
