Not too many posts going up here on Hopewell; so I thought I would start another one. Got out all three days over Memorial Day weekend. Saturday was a pretty decent day; got to the lake around 630 and fished until about noon. Caught 9 bass that day; all on deep crankbaits offshore in the heavily growing weeds. No particular spot was best; just worked my way around about 50 feet or so offshore. I did hook one REALLY nice fish.....I had her hooked for about 30 seconds and all I had was my line peeling off the reel. Then; the worst possible thing happened......it came off. I was so disappointed. The prior weekend I caught the 6-4 (which is pictured above on the far left) and I thought I had another really nice one : ( On Sunday I decided to try some afternoon/early evening fishing for the very first time at Hopewell; BIG MISTAKE. I got there around 300 and I counted 33 boats out on the water; only about 4 of us were there fishing. My son and I fished until around 730 and we left with 1 Bass under my belt and my Son caught 1 Bass; 1 Bluegill and 1 Pickeral. We actually caught all the fish to the right of the boat ramp (WAY BACK IN). We were fishing about 12 inches of water. They were all caught on shallow diving crankbaits. Then decided to head out again on Monday around 630.....what a GREAT DAY fishing. I decided to hit the emrging weeds again with the deep crankbaits and we had a blast. I caught 13 and my son caught 5 and we both lost a few as well. Fishing the shallows has not proven to be a good pattern there any longer but the outside weedline is proving to be a good pattern for me. Its a little bit of a PIA cleaning all the weeds off the hooks after just about every cast.....but well worth it. So overall; we are getting close to my favorite time of the year at Hopewell, I LOVE when the temps are high and the weeds are growing......great cranking from now til the end of the summer. Overall; a REALLY good year at Hopewell so far; my Bass count is now up to 109 for the year.
