Rough day on Hopewell today! A little chilly this morning even though the sun tried to peak through. At 10am the water temp was right around 50. Not a whole lot of action. I threw everything at em' today! Finally caught one around 12" in the wood on a square billed shallow diving crankbait. I found the fish on the electronics but they were suspended and very lethargic. By 2 the water temps hit around 52. Saw several people fishing for crappies and none of them were having much luck either. I think if we can get somewhat of a warming trend the action may pick up. Saw one guy fishing soft plastic real tight to cover in very shallow water and he said he caught a couple! This was my first trip out to Hopewell this year so the season really hasn't even started yet! ALOT of people there today though, there were probably 12 boats out there and tons of bank fisherman! Didn't seem like anybody was doing very well at all. I don't even think the bluegills were biting today!

Managed to put 6 LM in the boat, smallest was 14" and a little under 1lb, largest was 5 3/4 lbs, and 20". Jig w/ rage lizard dropped on the doorstep got some great reception. Was still too cold for them to chase spinners or cranks though.

Great job TommyP, I am glad to hear you had better luck than me! I was fishing a jig with a paca chunk in the wood for a while but I had no luck! However I certainly am not a very good jig fisherman. I look forward to the warmer weather when they are willing to give chase a little bit! Were you fishing in the wood as well?

Frogman, I feel your pain. I fished for about 3 hours yesterday and was also skunked. I tried spinners, jigs, and senkos. I did see a few fish splash around the far left side of the lake, but they weren't interested in what I had to offer.
Tommy ~ I've never used a lizard. How do you fish it?

Had my lizard head hooked on the jig, most of the hits came on the fall, only one hit came after I bottom bounced a few times. All were taken near wood. Got lucky with the big one, was a bad cast over a tree limb and he nailed it, but it worked out. And to put a name with the face, I'm the guy with the nutsty lookin red boat from the early 80's, but the fish don't seem to mind.

Hey TommyP; I remember seeing you; I actually asked how your luck was. I passed you on the left side of the lake in a olive green 12' semi V with a tan interior and a single seat set up in the back of the boat. I also had on a BRIGHT RED Yum hooded sweatshirt. At the point I saw you you had said you caught a couple real tight in the wood. Also.....Tom h; great job as well. Glad to hear the square bills were working out for you; what time were you there? I got there about 10 and stayed til around 2:00. Also you caught one on a senko; NICE! I tried EVERYTHING; senkos, jigs, cranks, tubes, spinnerbaits....I mean EVERYTHING! At least I caught one little one; that saved my day...whew! I have never been skunked on that lake yet; but it came real close yesterday. I caught a little dink; but a bass is a bass I suppose. Sure wish I was down there fishing in the nice weather today; this dang work thing keeps getting in the way of my fun; haha!

Hey TommyP; dont feel bad about the boat : ) I have a late 70's semi V; I actually sanded it all down and repainted and recaulked etc. over the winter and I thought it turned out real nice.....kind of a PIA; but well worth it in the end.
