sorry I couldn't give you a more timely response, but in answer to your question, yes I have fished those waters many, many times.
That lake has some huge Bass in it, although access to the better spots will test your patience & casting ability.
Before Strubble, MC & Chambers, that place was one of three lakes that I beat regularly. The other two were Icedale and the WC Reservoir. ( which are both worthy of their own thread)
Get on the north side of the lake, for the directionally challenged, it's the wooded side opposite of the road side. There are tons of blowdowns there. It's where the big girls hang out. It gets a great southern exposure and fishes best in early spring & fall.
If it was me, I'd throw a large spinnerbait, something with a long shaft and no trailer hook. You'll be retrieving against the natural fork of the blowdowns, that's always tricky, and if you hook one, you'll more than likely have to go in the water to get her. I'd also try pitchin/ swimmin a jig thru the branches.
And although you can't see it from the road, and you'd never know it's there, there is a small pond up on the golf course that used to always be worth a cast or two. back then the only people who knew it was there were golfers, hot air baloon pilots and of course, serial trespassers. I shamelessly admit that I fell into the latter category.
So put your hunting gear back in the closet and go try it. NOW is the best time.
The last time I fished there was in 2002, the above info should still be accurate

shankms, like zO6 stated the coatesville res. has produced some big bass. There are remnants of a few old roads that run thru the lake, one of which is Zaleski rd. This is the road that comes down and merges with Country club rd before the stop sign. If you google map this you may get a better idea of where I am describing. This road use to run across to the far side the lake where you see the point at the bend of the lake. There also is another road bed that use to come right down the hill thru what now is the golf course( if you look at the map and see the 90degree turn at the top of the golf course this is where it use to run straight down and across the lake). On the far side of the lake these road beds are good spots along with the downed trees and a ditch that parallels the shore line from the point on up to wards the feeder creek. Although I haven't fished it in 5 years or so, I use to live a few minutes from there and fished it constantly along with all the waters zO6 mentioned above. Icedale wow!!!
Another member of this board and I use to get the Rand -Mcnaly county maps and hunt down waters from puddles to reservoirs to fish. If you know what was once Kings Ranch in southern Chester County, they used to issue permits to hunt and fish(ponds only, the creeks stocked with big trout were off limits to the "average Joe" ). Some of those ponds had huge bass, bluegill and crappie.

225, not to step all over this gentlemans thread, funny you mentioned the map/ pond finding thing. I used to have a Chester County ADC map that I wore out. I circled every single pond in the county and made it a 3 year mission to fish every one of them. I probably hit 95% of them. Including the ones at King Ranch. I used to live on Strassburg Rd. @ Hepzibah Hill. Ever hit the pond at Georgia Farm at Strassburg & Creek Rd.? When I was younger we lived in North Hills off the WC by pass, we had our own lake in the development, and a short hike thru the woods put you into the Graystone estate, the one lake in Graystone with the old stone foundation on the bank had monster smallies in it. I would always try to ask permission, most of the times it was NO. That just meant one thing, I'll be back tonite in full camo I like my Bass boat, but I sure miss those pond fishing days. Icedale....WOW is right!

Wow I also fished the lake in Graystone does that ever bring back memories when i saw your post. I also fish the Cville Resevoir often its not like it use to be ever since they opened it back up to fishing. My largest out of there went 8 1/2. Use to be able to catch many over 4 in a few hours fishing but them days are gone. Still has some nice bass in there tho. Also loaded with white perch.

Hawgcatcher was that 8.5lbs back in the 80's, the one you hit on a spinnerbait over by the feeder pipe while the rest of the lake was frozen over , or did you get it on "Rebel & Eggs" lol JK

Has anyone fished here recently? In 2011? I have fished here in September 2010 and caught a lot of crappies, blue gill and yellow perch but never had any luck with the huge bass people are talking about. I plan to head down there next weekend. It would like nice if someone who has fished here recently can advise

Still fish or till this day. Still got a few bass and a ton of perch and blue gill. Not much worth keeping anymore. Was fished hard and never rebounded. Shame it isn't stocked at all. Guess what ever water ways that feed it don't bring much in anymore......

For the hardcore Cvlle resivoir fisherman it still has lots of quality bass and crappie in there. I have family and friends who tell me often about their success only thing is now you either have to have waders which I don't or you have to have walk in the woods which due to lack of foot traffic over the years is hard to walk through now. But yes lots of stunted white and yellow perch along with bluegill in there. I strongly suggest anyone who wades and want to really learn the structure wait until the water drops and go learn it you won't be disappointed

Oh and there aren't any feeder creeks that brings fish into the resivoir. Just look on maps no big streams or lakes feed the resivoir

Are you allowed to launch a kayak on this lake?

I know for sure no boats allowed in the resivior as far as kayaks I don't know anyone who has tried. There aren't any signs that say no kayaking so who knows give it a shot and let us know. I'm guessing the worse you will get is a warning for a 1st time offense with no Clear signage

Was wondering if it was possibly drained at all at this time, or how the fishing is in the fall. I could only imagine it would be good. Thanks!

Sorry for late reply Rob. Was just by there recently it's down but not way down like last year. If you searching for crappie I suggest anywhere from rainbow Rd to the dam especially on that steep bank. As far as bass I have never fished bass in the fall there. Bottom fishing for yellow perch use to to good this time of year but the white perch invasion has them stunted also.
