Got a few small yellows at marsh creek yesterday along with some blue gills. What happened to the big perch?

They have definitely gotten smaller over the years. I'm going to give it a try in the morning.

Honestly they are still there. But not as many as there was at one time. 20 years ago you could catch bushel baskets full of big perch. you would cut a hole or 2 & catch them like there was no tomorrow . But due to years of over fishing the perch population has hit rock bottom. I am sure you can still find some big ones .But now you have to look long & hard for them.& throw some back for another day.The down side is someone else will keep those you throw back. Almost like deer hunting in most parts of this state.I & many other guys refuse to shoot doe & yet other guys still shoot them up like there is a never ending supply. But thats deer hunting & this is fishing. & if you live in chester co. you don't see a huge reduction in the deer population like I do. hey have a great day the capt.

I don't think its necessarily over fishing. Lakes have a life span that affected negatively and positively by people and mother nature. Theres a lot of factors. Fishing, predator fish, over population of certain species, ph balance, pollution, oxygen levels, run off, tons of factor with spawning, aquatics plants, all the micro organisms we can't see, disease and hundreds of other things.

Back in the big perch days my uncle would fill his sled with them on a daily basis. I said to him "arent you going to hurt the population". He said "no its the best thing for the lake because otherwise it will become over populated".

The lakes Eco system is in good shape, unfortunately I believe the biggest factor is over harvest and not just from ice fisherman, during mild winters when we didn't have ice and guys could get their boats in the water they took a lot of the big perch home to. To many people think because the limit is 50 they have to take 50 home every time they go out. JMO
