Here's a fairly easy one. How many different types of materials were rods made of ? I know of at least 7.

Graphite Bamboo ( I think you mentioned you had a flyrod at Gordons made of Bamboo) I don't know how many, I just know some.

Not bad, plastics and composites are too general. There are three more that I know of, not listed. One was in the 40's / 50's, the other one in the 70's and one more just recently. Any body else want to try?

Last two are:
Late 70's early 80's Fenwick and several others including Bass Pro Shops sold bass rods using Boron in them. I still have a spinning rod by Fenwick, it was called Boron X, kind of a stiff metal feel to it but looked like graphite.
In the 40's and 50's another material used was Beryllium Copper. It was advertised in 1947 as "Super Flexable & Super Resilient" by Warren Products.
