This may be a can o' worms but.... What does everyone use to clean and lube their guns? The tried & true No. 9 works o.k. but we all know about the smell in the house. I never liked their oil, though. Most recently I've been using M Pro 7 for a cleaner. Their oil seems to work good as a lube but not as a rust preventer on some of my older guns. I think BreakFree CLP does a better job. I also like BirchwoodCasey Muzzle Magic for my flintlock. Any other thoughts?

Personally, (and I mostly shoot shotguns, so thats about all I clean on a regular basis) is I just use Rem Oil on patches, EVERYTIME (which i think is the key) after I shoot. If I get some stubborn spots or they just arent cleaning up good, I'll use shooters choice solvent. Most of the time I'm shooting side by sides, so oil usually does the job, but when I shoot the 1100, I use a lot more of the powder solvent on the tube and all the internals where powder residue likes to collect. Another key trick I've found, and a valuable one that makes cleaning a simple job (like I said above with just an oiled patch) is after youve got the bore as clean as its gonna get, run a patch or swab with some TC bore butter through it, and leave it at that. I've found over time of doing that, it just puts a little slick in the bore, 1 keeps it from rusting, pitting, gumming up with residue etc etc, and 2 makes cleaning a snap.

SidexSides? I have a Fox 20 ga. that I use for birds except geese. A nice 12 ga. is next on my list of things that I "need".

20ga fox is a nice gun, is it a sterlingworth or a savage/fox model B?

It's a Model B but shoots straight and is in excellent condition. I found it in Bob's Army & Navy in Phillipsburg, Pa. about 12 years ago.

Thats cool, I have a 20ga model B as well, was my grandfathers. I dont shoot it much because its pretty cumbersome. Nothing wrong with them but compared to a sterlingworth or my other 16 I shoot all the time, the model B is a beast!
But back to topic try out the TC bore butter sometime, its great stuff!
