Fished yesterday for 5 hours and got nothing but a huge catfish that I caught on a spinnerbait. Tried everything worked slow and fast, nothing worked, I don't even think I got a hit. Anyone else having any luck here?

Hello Mikes, I am a new member to the forum. I've been to Octararro many times, however, I hadn't been there in the last 7 years until the exact same day you were there (7-6-07) with my Grandson. The lake did seem to be a little lower than what I remembered. We rented a boat and fished around for about the same amount of time as yourself, with nothing to show for it. I was trying for Bass and Cat. My Grandson caught a few pan fish that weren't keepers.
We know what it's like to come home empty, but I've noticed wherever We go; Marsh Creek, Green Lane or Churchville, we experience the same thing...catching fish all day but no keepers. I think I kind of figured out why: Certain people that come to these places to fish, keep every thing they catch, even the real small ones. They through nothing back. Anything below 6-7inches I through back and I encourage my grandson to do the same. There should be an enforced size restriction on the pan fish...if not, I'm afraid fishing everywhere will be lousy...especially for the kids.
What do you think?

I'm sure thats the case in some places and in others its overpopulation so their growth is stunted. I'm sure theres other reasons too.

Kaylab, I agree to some extend with your theory. however , I like to throw the larger fish back for spawning. I am not against keeping fish but I don't keep any because I don't like the taste of a fish. Octoraro has its good days as well as its bad. It seems at times like in the dogdays of summer there are more bad. Got to just keep pounding the place until you find thatone spot that prodices for you. I'm hoping to get out this week, hopefully I will have better luck. Good luck to you. MikeS
