It's frustrating but there hasn't been any news on the condition of the lake since the spill. Has anyone heard or seen anything? Seems like they are trying to make sure we forget what happened so Sunnoco and their cronies can weasel their way back in.

The roughly 8,100 gallon spill at the lake has resulted in an order by PA DEP for Sunoco to conduct an impact assessment and cleanup plan which was done. The result was DEP ordered the pipeline to be rerouted. All of this information and more is available on line.
It is important to recognize that this was a spill of drilling mud. There was no oil, gas or any hydrocarbon involved as the pipeline is being built. It is not complete. The mud in question was about 8,100 gallons. Marsh Creek lake contains about 6.97 billion gallons of water. It is a very small amount of contaminant (It is still unacceptable). The mud that spilled consists of bentonite (you would call that clay) barium sulfate (which if you ever have a scan of your digestive system they give you to drink to trace your guts. It is not water soluble.) and calcium carbonate (egg shells.) The mud is not toxic. BUT spilling it is not supposed to happen which is why the DEP is taking such harsh action against the pipeline company.
If you read all of the involvement by DEP in this incident I think you will be very satisfied with the actions that have been taken.
I fish on Marsh Creek a lot and will continue to do so. I do not want pipeline companies making mistakes like this just as I really would like people to take their trash home with them after they recreate at the lake.

Thanks for the insight rell72... your time, energy, and research into the topic is greatly appreciated... I heard similar reviews of the incident and couldn't agree more... Now the weather needs continue to warm up and muskies will be biting again soon! #MarshCreekTeddy The roughly 8,100 gallon spill at the lake has resulted in an order by PA DEP for Sunoco to conduct an impact assessment and cleanup plan which was done. Considering that this spill was last summer and the cleanup has been completed, does anyone know why the cove where the spill occured is still closed to fishing?

There is possible seepage of drilling clay from underground. The article above has the info. Unfortunately no other info since.

Comical how "environmental watchdog"'s hair goes on fire due to drilling mud but they say nothing when carcinogenic herbicides are flooded into the lake to control vegetation. How about someone start a gofundme to file a civil suit against the county and "weedkillers"...i'll be the first to donate.

Hey OT, I agree that Marsh Creek is one of the most mismanaged reservoirs in the state. But it's not run by the county, it's run by the PA DCNR > Dept of CONSERVATION & NATURAL RESOURCES!!!!!

Better yet. Let's win custody of the lake back to the local county and return mother nature in charge. I bet the fishing would come back quickly.
