A friend was fishing this past Saturday morning at the lake, and was chatting to a Fish Comm. Officer at the boat ramp. The officer stated that they had identified Northern Snakehead in Marsh Creek. Thats all I know or have heard regarding it. Is anyone else aware of that?

I was sure I saw one recently there. Others said no, but I know what I saw.

It was only a matter of time. On the plus side, I caught one on the upper Chesapeake this spring and they fight great and I hear they're good eating.

if you catch those things, rule is it should be killed. Don't return it to water.

They have been illegal to import into this country since around "05" I doubt if anyone still had one in a fish tank from before the ban. So that leaves 2 choices #1 somebody caught it elsewhere and transported it(and others ?) Or #2 somebody knows a guy(black market)
With how rapidly they expanded from a couple of small ponds next to the Potomac I'd hate to see them get into our lakes. The white perch invasion from the late 90's put a serious hurt on some of our lakes. I know up here at Ontelaunee there were millions of those things till the population crashed - Sadly they also ate all the food in the lake so the bass and crappies also crashed(both were restocked - something the PFBC does't do much of)
If they are truly there then I'd organize some Catch + Cook Tourney's ... Bowfishing preferred !

Unfortunately, birds are a big transporter of eggs as well. Hopefully they can be taken care of before they multiply!

Our local fish warden as well as a biologist has confirmed there are snakeheads in Marsh Creek. There was an approx 27” snakehead at the bridge guarding its fry. That’s all I know at this time.

I checked with a contact from the PFBC to confirm this info. It really sucks that some angler would take it upon themself to introduce an invasive species into a state owned lake, or any lake, river or stream for that matter. It's senseless as well as illegal to do this. The fishing at MC has been tough enough. We'll just have to see what happens in future at the lake.

Look at the bright side. Maybe the Bass club thats been tearing the lips off the bass every Tuesday night for the last couple years can now have snakehead tournaments instead.

These posts remind me of the fishing forums chatter ( do a Google search)back in the early 2000s when snakeheads were a hot topic in Maryland. Doom and gloom for native species. Fast forward to present time. We fish the Potomac, Blackwater refuge, Nanticoke river and a bunch of ponds. Yes we get snakeheads but also bass, pickeral, perch and every other native species. Same in Delaware. Becks pond is getting strong with snakeheads and it's one of the best LB ponds in Delaware. You'll have another great fighting and tasting fish to target.
