I’m a Colorado fisherman here, new to PA and happen to be renting a property that backs up to the Schuylkill.
I’m looking for advice on rigs to use and what species are in the river from Reading to Pottstown.
Also feel free to contact me if your looking for fishing company! For now I’m unemployed, so I should be available during the week anytime!!
Lots of questions...

you are in catfish territory. catch some small fish, rig them up and toss out with some weight.

Big flatheads everywhere. Couple nice smallmouth around. For smallies target any rocky points, creek mouths, gravel banks, etc. I usually use crankbaits there depending on water clarity/depth, bait of choice being a DT-6 in red craw color.

You should be able to find cat fish, smallies, largies, walleye, white and yellow perch, sunfish, in some spots shad. Good luck!

Must have lures for this river Re : Senkos ( 3 inch in colors Cinnamon Brown. Watermelon Red Flake, and Black.) I am a smallmouth bass fisherman , but the river has walleye, muskies, rock bass, catfish and carp. Other lures that produce great are : Mizmo tubes ( I only use this color , they love it, ( ROADKILL CAMO !!!) Reaction Innovations has a lure called Smallie Beaver ( creature bait ) Again use Roadkill Camo for this bait. For the tubes and smallies... rig Texas style with a 1/4 ounce jig head. Swim baits are good as well as small 70 size Whopper Ploppers. Fish in shallow areas near the main river flow like coves and runoffs. I have caught a few 3-4 lb smallmouth over the years, but most fish will be in the 1-2 lb range.
