Does Marsh Creek still hold channel catfish or is the population pretty much dead? Would I have better luck trying Struble Lake. I have tried fishing Marsh Creek and Chambers lake for channel catfish but I have only caught Bullheads in both.

I haven't had any luck locating them either the last couple of years. If they're there they are probably struggling. Fish population over all seems to be poor. It's a shame. I'd recommend the Schuylkill river.

They still don't have the warm water stocking info on their web page so IDK when the last stocking was or how many have been put in recently. Their reason for discontinuing the walleye stocking at M.C. was that the bass were eating them all. Maybe the bass are eating the cat fingerlings now since walleye are off the menu.
I used to get quite a few at Struble while fishing for crappie. They used to like fatheads under a bobber LOL. Haven't been down there in quite a while though

I've only ice fished at MC in the past, but I was thinking of making an early morning trip this weekend to target catfish. I'll report back if I have any luck.

I gave up on catfishing the Schuykill river as I have way better success on the Susquehanna. I have not caught a flatty out of the Schuylkill and I have caught multiple 20+lbers out of the Susquehanna. Good luck fishing!

So I ended up not really targeting catfish while at MC the other weekend after I got into a couple bass. My buddy targeted catfish but with no luck. He wants to go back and try again, if we turn one up I'll report back. As far as the Schuylkill and flatheads they are definitely there, I believe the state record for a flathead was set this year out of the Schuylkill River. Lots of people catch them on the stretch in Philadelphia, and north of the City. No doubt the Susquehanna is great for them too, just don't have any first-hand experience there, it's just a bit too far of a drive for me with my current situation. Would definitely love to spend a couple of days on the Susquehanna targeting smallies during the day and flatheads at night - maybe next year. Quickestdoublee - When you fish for them in the Susquehanna are you using a boat, or from the shore? I only have a yak, so I tend to do my night-time catfishing from the bank.

I fish from shore at Safe Harbor Dam. Very easy access but you need a drop net for bigger fish. Also tons of Channel Catfish and including millions of 3 inchers that are good for bait. Caught some really nice flatheads there as well.

Nice to have a ready supply of bait waiting at the fishing spot, beats lugging my bucket full of water and bait down a long trail!

There are tons of flatheads in the Schuylkill River and plenty of channel cats too. If you were to look at the Schuylkill page on FB you'd see 20 to 40 lbs and even up being caught regularly right now. Live sunnies and cut bait do it.

Agree - live and cut redbreast are what I use for flatheads in the Schuylkill. You're right about the bite right now too, heading out this weekend, fingers crossed I get a 40lb!!
