The son and I went out around 6 and fished until 9:30PM. We fished heavy weed cover with frog imitations and pop-Rs.
We didn't get any big bass but caught lots of 1-2 pounders.
Was a mad house trying to launch the boat at 6. I wish the kayak crowd could show a bit more courtesy on the ramp.
Lake was almost empty at 9:30.

sounds like a solid day of fishing. I still need to get on that topwater bite this year

The topwater has been slow this year, not sure the why. We almost exclusively fish topwater for bass, love the explosion from the first hit.

I always "inform" the kayakers they can launch from anywhere on the lake. I am restricted to launching from the boat ramp.

Last I checked, Kayaks are boats. If they are jumping in line that is one thing, but to think they should not launch from the same spot you are is ludicrous.

As a kayak fisher, you can't launch anywhere you want. Some might do that but there are signs in various lots about no launching. We all should wait our turn. just enjoy your time on water, too busy, go elsewhere.

My only issue was with folks pulling their kayak onto the ramp and going up and sitting in the grass. The ramp is for everyone, get in and out quickly people.

I don't want to start a war with kayakers but it seems that they either don't understand boat etiquette or don't care. I have been fishing at numerous lakes and people in kayaks will paddle over your fishing line...let their kayaks just sit on the dock ramp... refuse to follow protocol when approaching a boat... it's at a point that when I see 2 or more kayaks I just leave

I'd like to point out that I've noticed a clear line between kayak fishermen and recreational kayakers. Its extremely rare to see actual kayak fishermen do any of the aforementioned things, but recreational kayakers, which are plentiful at marsh creek, often get between me and the bank at which time a half oz jig to the side of the kayak usually shows my dissatisfaction.

To me it's a lack of common sense, courtesty, education and oversight by the park.
I agree about the yakers who fish most get it.
The park could do a lot more to help,make things run smoother; be visible around the ramp as I rarely see them. Maybe designate areas for the yaks to launch, e.g. @ Lyndell only on the primitive ramp and on the side with the sand to not impede boats launching there. Maybe the middLe section of the concrete ramp only.
How about distributing some litature to educate everyone, boaters included.
On the Park Zoo side who cares I never launch there:).

Eh, I think a good chunk of people don't care enough to bother learning the etiquette and the rest are just not a very nice persons. Chambers did a good job of putting up signs for the different areas ("boat prep area, no parking") and still people park right next to those signs (literally). I dont think is just kayakers, there are plenty of people with bass boats who decide to do their prep on the ramp instead of before or don't make an effort to get out of the way of the ramp when not actively using it. I try to be patient, especially if folks seem like they're new at it, try to be helpful if the opportunity is there.
