today there was only a thin layer of ice over on the rental side and the coves, the entire main lake is still open water

As of 6pm Jan 1, 2018 the covees are covered with ice thick enough to access/fish. The main lake has a skim coat but if the temps are as predicted the entire lake s/b accessible by Jan 6.

Thanks redman. Hopefully have time this weekend to check things out. It’s crazy how quiet things get on here once the ice is near fishable. Lol.

I’m a total newb when it comes to ice fishing. I’m going to grab an auger, sled and some rods and tipups in the next couple days, but beside a jigging rap and swedish pimple, is there something that works better than others out there? A buddy of mine and I are going to get on the ice this coming Sunday. Any tips/pointers would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Tip have a 2nd pole double shad dart or hair jigs. Minnow on 1 hook butterworm on other use auger to prop it up. Every once in a while slightly nudge it wit your foot

did a drive by a couple days ago. saw a half dozen folk on the ice off the chalfont side. they were well out and looked like they could have walked all the way across the lake to the other side. i watched (from the warm and cozy of my car) for a while but mostly looked like they were searching for a good spot to set up. ice seemed to be very smooth and clear. one guy with manual auger finally dug in - only took about 5 mins to get into the water.
over by the bridge it was still snow covered but seemed to be couple areas cleared off for skating - there were even a couple guys skating/practicing hockey.
a far cry from this time last year. i don't think you guys got any hard water fishing in last year. i expect there will be several of you out this weekend.
remember - respect the water. respect the weather. stay warm and safe. tight lines to all. oh yeah, save some crappie for me in the spring : )

Good news we got to fish for a few hours this afternoon. Ice seemed to be pretty good. We were over in carpenters cove. Seemed to be plenty of small perch and crappies around but nothing to write home about. Bad news besides that nice breeze we had all day was that my auger fell out of my sled on the way out and we didn’t realize it loading up. Probably because we were in a mad dash to get out of that wind. We parked in the lower parking lot and took the road in. I’m guessing it feel out maybe in the section they didn’t plow. I’ll be back up in the area tomorrow afternoon. If someone comes across a blue 8 inch fin-bor auger please let me know. Thank justin. 484-643-0894

Fished the main lake yesterday. Brutally cold. Good solid 6 inches of ice. Had trouble finding the crappies though. Fished the normal areas. Only managed 6 crappie mixed in with a bunch of smaller perch. Going back out tomorrow

I think I saw you set up there yesterday panfish. Haven't been able to post up on top of the fish like we did a few years ago yet. I agree though, as soon as about 3:30 or 4 comes the fish light up the screen. Before that just the occasional perch.
Just a tip for all, the rangers are serious when they say the park closes at Sun set. I've been chased out of there twice so far before actual dark
