I have been dying to fish the Susquehana or schuylkill. I typically target Musky at Marsh creek but I'm tired of the tons of ignorance. I would love to try these rivers due to the aray of species but would still like to attempt musky. My problem is that I only have a 12 foot aluminum boat with an electric motor (no gas power). Could anyone give me any tips/suggestions on if either of these rivers would be possible for my boat and if so best location to launch?

I worked at safe harbor dam and a buddy and i launched a canoe from the conestoga river once. We made it across the river no problem, but we also knew they were not generating any more that day. That being said, i was also out in a 14ft v with a 25 hp motor while they were generating and we were ok; but there is NO way i would attempt it with just a trolling motor. The water level comes up so fast while generating it actually pushes back up the conestoga. I was fly fishing the conestoga one day after work and had a nice drift going only to watch my line come back up passed me because of this. With all the rain they may open a gate or two which makes it more dangerous. If you dont know the water below the dam be extremely careful, its all rock. Launch up near columbia or just across the bridge. Plenty of guys out there in small jons with trolling motors.

I used my old 12' Radison Transom Canoe with an electric motor several times on the Susky in the Falmouth/Brunners Island areas. I always went after bass opened into the fall and only if the river level was normal-low. I also carried 2 batteries and 90% of the time I went upstream from the launch area.
Radison canoes are very light weight(under 50lbs) so I wasn't pushing a heavy boat around.

Trolling motor would be fine if you launch at the 113 ramp on the skuke. I used to launch below black rock with just a trolling motor too.
