Just looking at a quick show of hands to see who might be interested in a friendly "gathering" on Chambers Lake sometime this summer. If we get too many folks signed up then it must be classified as organized and you need permission and such. But I would love to have a friendly little paper Bass tourney; probably mid-June when bass season comes back in. A few of us did this two years back and it was a lot of fun. We set the minimum at 15" I believe (Harry; correct me if I am wrong). I think we only had 3-4 boats total but it was just a great time. If we could get about 5 boats to participate that would be perfect. I am hoping to be boat #1 and bring along either BowlerX or my Son; I am also hoping that Harry Miles will take spot #2. So we would just need three more boats.
Harry won the last one and I am seeking revenge, HAHA! I boated 9 Bass that morning but just couldn't get one over the minimum size. I don't know how many Bass Harry caught but he was the only one who managed a "keeper" bass for the day. Sadly; BowlerX and his partner I think skunked that day (sorry Buddy). But it's a good way to meet up with a few fishing friends and just hang out on the water. No prizes were issued; just simply bragging rights on this forum. I can speak for myself and Harry that we have gained a lot more knowledge on this lake so I think it could be a real shootout this time around; and who knows.....maybe someone out there could step in and just blow the entire field of anglers away.
If too many people sign up we could always just show up and fish and gather in the parking lot afterwards (or I could contact the office to see if we could plan something). Up for grabs this year could be the official MR. CHAMBERS LAKE title; what do you think? Who's in?

Haha. I'm in as long as it doesn't conflict with any tourneys I have scheduled.
As long as its not a huge group and we don't livewell the fish, we don't need any permission. We did paper and pictures last time and that was good. I have heard of Chambers granting permission for small tourneys in the past for people who donated time helping out with conservation projects or whatever.
Technically, the limit at Chambers is always 15" since its a big bass lake. So paper or otherwise, the minimum should be 15" just in case.
Let's see how much interest there is and I'm sure we can pull something together.

Also, depending on the time of day we do it. I may be able to take someone from the board on my boat.

I don't have a boat but do have a kayak. I'd join you guys for sure! I've got my measuring board and scale for documentation.

Hey Harry; I spoke to Steve last night so I have my partner a while. Not sure what your tourney schedule is but I am thinking either towards the end of June or early July?? Thanks for all of your info in your reply.
Zig; that would be awesome if you want to participate. I don't have a problem with you bringing the yak : )
Hopefully if we have it late June or early July the water temps will be nice and warm and give us a challenge. In hot weather it gets a little tricky there after about 9-10 in the morning once the sun is high. The first few years on the lake I was a bank beater; just cruising in the boat along the shoreline and I caught my fair share of Bass; but over the last season I have learned a lot more about fishing in deeper water there. I have caught a few good bass out of that lake but typically they have all come from water over 7-8' deep.

With all this interest, it sounds like we should do something a little more official. At least let the park folks know we're doing it and see if we can get permission.

Kind of funny I was watching one of those "Warden" shows the other night. They pulled up at a river and stopped a guy with live fish in a bucket - His claim was he was in a friendly little T with 5-6 guys. The wardens gave him a warning - basically said you're good with so few guys as a "friendly" and let him go - they let him measure his fish but he had to release them.
Turns out they checked another "T" guy and he gave them the straight story - there were about 20 entrants who paid a fee and the guy running the "T" was the first guy they checked.... They thought that was interesting and talked about going to see guy #1 again. Sadly I flipped the channel and missed the outcome when I flipped back.

Maybe we need to keep it at 5 boats and go on a first come first serve basis? That lake could get crazy if there's too many folks, haha.

Most folks on here might not know me, as I'm new(er) to the thread, so I wouldn't take offense if there wasn't room for another boat in this gathering. However, I'd like to partake if there aren't too many boats. With regard to the wardens and Conservation Officers, would they still give us a hard time if we didn't keep the fish in wells; instead take a quick pic, measurement and weight and return back to the water? If this is a friendly "T" then I'm sure everyone would hold true integrity and be honest at time of Check-in "weigh-in". Just some thoughts from the new guy...

That's exactly what we did last time; we just did a paper tourney (no fish in the livewell). Plus many folks do not have a boat with a livewell so it works out all around. But I think what I will do is look over the calendar; pick a date and then send info to the park rangers to see what they think or if we need to do anything etc. Stay tuned for more info in the coming weeks!
