Need some ideas, taking a half day on Friday to take my son on a weekend fly fishing trip. We were planning to stay in Jim Thorpe and fish some of the creeks that empty into the Lehigh up there. Being that we've done this a few time before he wants to do something new.
I am looking for ideas that are no more than a few hours away and don't require lots of money. We've covered the Lehigh pretty good and big parts of Potter county. Maybe Cumberland valley, Western MD or WV?
any input would be greatly appreciated.

I would look further west in PA, I recently fished Penns creek and Spring creek, both fishable, but very low. Penns is the lowest I've ever seen, some of the tribs to the Lehigh are just as dry. Maybe the upper Delaware is doing better.

never heard of a creek vanishing like that, that's scary; all because of a rock quarry. sounds like my son has his heart set on Erie steelhead, so we will leave Friday afternoon, if I can find a place to stay.

go hit the Clarion River all tackle trophy trout water between Johnsonburg and Ridgway. Lots of Browns and a good chance to land a 20+ inches, hit it at the right time and have a bunch of fun with caddis drys. A tad over a 4hr run from Chester county depending where you lay. Cheap accommodation and take a side trip to Weedville and see the elk. Beautiful country. If you need a guide or some pointers contact Kurt Thomas, lives in town and is a certified Orvis quite. Lots of water virtually no pressure.

on a related note on the stream disappearing we have the same problem here; anyone been by West Valley Creek along Clover Mill Rd it was bone dry virtually from boot Rd up past the quarry. Walked in and also saw heavy equipment in the stream bed above the eastern wire of the special reg section and a bunch of stone laid down. I've only been here since 92 and never saw WV dry. Wazup witH that? ?

To guest about W. Valley in Downingtown. I just stopped by this creek to fish this past weekend. completely dry, I walked it about 1/4 and only found puddles. I then proceeded over to the Orvis store and was informed a sinkhole opened up about a year ago and that's where the water went. I'm guessing that creek will not be returning.

What a shame, the stream was doing OK for awhile there.

Never made it to Erie, only to the East Branch of the Brandywine for a few hours, where we caught 1 trout, 1 little small mouth and a million fall fish. Not much of an adventure.

Per a response for the PFBC sink holes are the culprit responsible for the troubles on W Valley creek.
There is work being done to fill the sink holes in an attempt to restore the creeks normal flow. FYI this is the same vicinity PEDOT did some work this summer to repair a section of the RT 30 bypass just east of the over pass that crosses W Valley.
