I bought a new MotorGuide X3 45lb thrust motor in 2014 to replace my 15 yo trolling motor. Motor works well - seems to take less draw on the battery and provide equal or greater thrust. Req'd new motor mount as newer trolling motors was heavier than the old.
I've gone through several trolling motors in the past few years so I have had good and bad experiences. I first had a MotorGuide Brut 45 lb. thrust transom mount and that thing lasted me about 1-1/2 years (I'm glad I got it on sale). Something broke inside and it was stuck on high speed forward. The only way to shut it off was to disconnect from the battery; so needless to say I wasn't very satisfied with that purchase. After that I went cheap and bought a BPS Brand Prowler 30 lb thrust; lets just say that I sold that one in less than a season. I just felt that it was made of pretty cheap materials and I would never buy one again. So that brings me to what I have now (and have had for several seasons); a Minn Kota Endura Maxx 55 lb. thrust transom mount motor. This one is a keeper for sure. It's got variable speed in forward and reverse and has given me the best battery life by far. The shaft is flexible and can handle a lot of abuse and the motor is running better than ever these days. So my highest recommendations on the Endura Max; it cost a little more than the others but was/is definitely worth it. I hope this info helps!
