Arrived at the lake around 9:00 and found water temps around 55 degrees; so still a little cold out there. By 2:00 water temps were around 61 so the sun is starting to do its thing on the water. I basically just ran around the lake trying to explore a little more but managed one nice smallie up the lake. Most folks on the upper end weren't really catching either so I was happy that I had one good fish. I spoke to multiple boats and several folks stated that any fish they spotted on the electronics were still in the channel (and the weren't biting). I was hitting mostly laydowns and saw no action. I pulled into a decent cove and found rock and pebbles on the bottom; that's where the smallie came from (18-1/2" and a solid 3 pounds). She whacked a square bill crankbait in about 4 feet of water and put up a decent fight. I was watching two guys just sitting out in the middle and saw them latch on to a few good fish. I caught up with them at the ramp and they said they were fishing for catfish and caught 8; no flatheads though. I think if we can get a good weather pattern over the next two weeks and a full moon this lake might come alive. On a side note; with the rain and winds on Saturday I decided to go pond fishing for a little bit and ended up with 8 LM in about 2 hours. Surprisingly; a few of the smaller bass in the pond have already started spawning. I saw a real monster swimming around but she saw me as well and swam away. This is the pond where my 8, 8-1/2 and 10-1 came from and I am thinking she has grown a little since I probably caught her last.
