Basser; thanks for the info. I actually use good gas in the motor; it's pure gas (ethanol free) and I use fuel stabilizer as well : ) The problem I had is that when I went to restart the motor I pulled the choke out which was a mistake. Also on the throttle there is a cold start and warm start position and because the motor was shut off for a little bit I set it to the cold start, haha. So a whole series of mistakes there (pulled the choke and set to cold start). When I couldn't get it started I pulled the cord about 25 times and then started smelling gas. When I eventually decided to pull the spark plug it was soaked. That's why I dried it off real well and then re-installed and then the motor started for me. On my 2nd attempt to start the "warm" motor I DID NOT pull out the choke and set it to the warm start position and it started up for me. Other than that; the motor ran very well. With my loaded 14' john boat and the 2.5 HP motor I was able to hit almost 8 mph; with that I was impressed. Half throttle easily gives me 6 mph. I hear these small outboards can be a little touchy so I think I just need to figure it out and get acquainted with it. I agree with not taking the motor apart on the water; I was certainly very careful and very nervous at the same time. I was very relieved when I got it put back together and threw the cover back on without losing anything in the lake. I can say that my shoulders were nice and sore the next morning from all of the excess pulling I did (that I should not have had to - my bad, haha). I'll get it down pat after a few trips.
***UPDATE*** I talked to Doug at Bowers Marine (where I purchased the motor) and he stated that he is pretty sure the only thing I did wrong was to pull out the choke on a warm engine and that's where my troubles began. I will certainly remember that for next time.
