Just out of curiosity; what is that "island" of whatever off the shore at the Sheidy Ramp? I was out there yesterday just walking around and saw that "island" half way out from the shore. I saw there was a buoy marker on it but wasn't sure if that was something permanent or something washing down the creek channel etc. I realize at full pool it'll be under 4 ft. of water but I sure would hate to be running up the lake and hit that with the outboard. I couldn't find that marked on any topo map of the lake so just wondering if it's permanent; if so will the buoy remain there? It's actually right where I thought the channel was running through that area.

The buoy is there to mark the shallow water when the lake is at full pool. There's another island that shows up during winter drawdown. It's down off the swim beach on the main lake. It also has a buoy marking it.

That is part of an old roadbed that crosses the lake, not sure if there is a bridge abutment there too or not, personally I've never caught anything there. The next roadbed down the lake is another story LOL.

I've only ever noticed it when looking on google earth. If you scroll to the 4/6/1999 image you can see both islands shellback speaks of.

How do you get to the 4/6/1999 image?

There's a time line in the upper left corner, as you have probably noticed, it only goes back to 2002. Look in the lower left corner, and you should see a date of 1992. Click on it, and then you can go back to the upper left and go back farther in time. Any photo from the winter drawdown months will show the islands.

MyTopo also used to have a free "historical map section" that showed the area (and other lakes) before they were built, but they changed their website and I couldn't find it yesterday

Got it.....thanks for the info. I was going on Google Maps and hit the Earth button; you actually have to download the app onto your computer which gives you the timeline feature. Good stuff; that's exactly what I saw when looking out into the water from the Sheidy Launch. Definitely will try to stay away from that area with the outboard, haha! Do they leave the buoy there all the time (even at full pool) or is it safe to run over at full pool?

Not sure about the Sheidy launch buoy, but the one down near Dry Brooks launch and the swimming beach stays there all year. I give it a wide berth.

the hump at Sheidy ramp had a tree lodged on it and then they added the buoy, there are a few other spots above that spot that are also shallow but not marked, the one by the swimming beach is just a large shallow shoal or rock & is always marked. There are a few other shallow humps at low pool that are not marked. One is just past the bridge pilings in the Pleasantville cove.

Not to hijack this post or anything, but another helpful tool I've used has aerial pictures from 3 different eras (40's, 60's, 70's), similar to what icemole mentioned. These are good at showing what our reservoirs looked like before the dams were put in place. But they are a bit intense to try and coordinate exactly what you are looking at.
