Despite a balmy 39 degrees upon arriving at the lake on Sunday it was an awesome day out on the lake. Not another single boat on the lake until around 10-1030. I was thinking everyone else knew something I did not but it turned out it was the other way around. With a water temp of 61 degrees I was hoping the Bass were in shallow chasing forage trying to fill up for the long winter ahead. That theory proved wrong; only caught one Bass in shallow. But I quickly switched gears and found them sitting in about 7-9 ft of water. The action was really good between 830-10; I was able to catch another 9 bass in that time frame. As soon as the wind picked up (the lake was smooth as glass when I got there at 7:00) the action quit. I tried for another 1-1/2 hours and was only able to catch one 12" perch. All Bass were around 12" (the normal Hopewell Bass) but I still had a great time. After the sun came up the chill started to go away and it felt great to be back out on the water again. After about 1030 the lake started to receive a little bit of traffic but not a whole lot. But all-in-all; a beautiful morning out on the lake and I was rewarded with enough Bass to keep it exciting. Hopefully with the weather this week the water temps will remain around 60 degrees so I can give it another go next weekend.
